When the World Goes Dark is a sapphic age-gap survival thriller about what it means to endure — and what it means to love when love is the only light left.

The night the world went dark,
I thought I was going to die.

The city was already breaking apart — cars abandoned, people screaming, gunshots echoing through the streets. I ran. I didn’t look back.

Now I’m alone in the forest, hunted by shadows I can’t name, every branch snapping like a warning. Then I meet her. Alex. She’s older, colder, and way too calm, like she’s already measured out how long I’ll last.

But the darkness outside isn’t the worst part. It’s the silence. The waiting. The way something — someone — keeps circling the cabin at night. And the way Alex looks at me when the firelight flickers too long.
I should be terrified of her. Maybe I am.

But in a world this broken, the only thing more dangerous than trusting her…
is not.

When the World Goes Dark is a sapphic age-gap survival thriller where every heartbeat counts — and love might be the only light left.

Let me say if you like stories where there is action you will be disappointed. Most of the book takes place at night in a cabin. The point of this book is not action but relationship building. It focuses on how over time people can change and adapt. This is where the author really shines. However, I feel the book needed more editing to reach that next level. There were inconsistencies in some details of the characters and time frames. I really wish we got scenes with them interacting outside the cabin, as I think that would help make the bond between them more believable. It's like some proclamations came out of nowhere. I will say I'm continuing on to the second book because I want to know what has happened in their world, the first book doesn't really touch on it. For the most part they are in a bubble.

Character driven survival story

I only got about halfway and couldn't take anymore. It is so repetitive. I don't know if they are trying to give the perspective of both characters for the same event, but they just have the characters say the same thing over and over again. The timeline is very hard to follow. The virtual voice does not help either. I usually always dislike the virtual voices and this was not an acception. With the way things are halfway through, I have no idea how the main characters are suppose to have a believable romantic relationship. Their is absolutely no buildup so far.

Disappointing

There is no way this was written by a human being. From the constantly repeated phrases, even word for word, to the COMPLETELY fractured timeline. They go from the start of the apocalypse, to reaching shelter, and then suddenly they're going back and forth from saying it's been 4 days to several weeks within one chapter. The chapters also jump around from them having kissed, to the start of their days in the shelter together and still keeping distance, then back to having kissed, then they do it and the next chapter they haven't even spoken yet. When I first started listening I was welding and thought when a kiss having happened and making things awkward was suddenly mentioned I'd missed something, but no. The further I got the more confusing it was.
DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS. Awful.

There are five words very repetitive and at times difficult to listen and was not excited by any intimacy between the two main characters.
