In the exhilarating second romantasy novel in Rebecca Robinson’s Dark Inheritance Trilogy, a fiery couple forced apart must navigate a deadly maze of politics and power to reunite across a continent at war.

Torn from her husband Reid’s arms and dragged back to her homeland in chains, Vaasa is no longer a ruler, but a political pawn. Now under the control of Ozik—a cunning Zetyr witch with a stranglehold on her magic—she faces annulment, forced betrothal, and a kingdom that no longer feels like her own. As Ozik’s machinations aim to install himself as the true power behind the Asteryan throne, Vaasa is forced to take part in his game.

Meanwhile, across the continent, Reid is done playing politics. But waging war is never simple, and a soldier’s fury cannot stand up against Icruria’s bureaucracy. With allies fading and time slipping away, Reid may have no choice but to infiltrate Asterya on his own to find the woman he loves and bring her home.

As Vaasa’s magic begins to flare, she desperately seeks control, even if Ozik is the only one who can offer it. She then finds a cryptic final message from her mother about a precious missing necklace that might just be the answer to finally freeing her magic from Ozik. Yet when a ghost from Vaasa’s past reemerges among the suitors vying for her hand, escape might be within reach—but will it demand a betrayal that real love may not survive?

I loved everything about this book. The spicy scenes were so good. The “love triangle” so different. The back story heart wrenching. The magic and the witches endearing. Fabulous!!

Excellent writing. Excellent narration. Excellent story.

Wow Rebecca out did herself with this book! I loved book one.. but this book was just spectacular!! The world building was fantastic! It was so fun to get to learn more about Asterya! I loved getting so much history on some of the characters, and learning of events that shaped them into who they have become. The book was action packed and kept me turning pages because I just needed to find out what would happened next. Vassa’s journey in this book was heartbreaking and also beautiful. To watch her grow and become who she is destined to be was just so amazing to experience. Though I am very worried about how things are going to go in book three… that ending was killer 😭 Reid, wow I didn’t know how much I needed the Reid POV chapters in this book, but I was feral for them! To see through Reid’s eyes as he fought to get his wife back, and to see the ruthless Wolf of Mireh come out , it was to die for. I just love how Reid is such a Cinnamon roll, but also has this savage morally gray side! He has definitely made it into top Five MMCs after this book, maybe even top three?? 🥰 I love this book so much and wish you all would read it so I can gush about all the amazingness! But also hurt together after that ending 😅

Spectacular!

This 2nd book in the trilogy was even better than the first. I'm in love with this word. I completely went down a witch rabbit hole to try to map out the locations, the gods, the powers, and all kinds of other details that make this world so rich and allow me to theorize for book 3. The fmc is so smart and cunning and the mmc might be my new favorite book boyfriend. I swoon over Reid.

The only thing I truly hated was Lord Vlacik who I renamed Lord Pickle (Vlasic).
