Advokat Caroline Stierna är tillbaka från sin verklighetsflykt i Karibien tillsammans med miljonären och entreprenören Alastair Smalls. Under jul- och nyår hittar hon tillbaka till maken Jesper och det trygga vardagslivet. Han kan fortfarande få henne att darra i månskenet. Men kanske är hennes liv med Jesper inte så tryggt som hon tror. Efter en fruktansvärd händelse ifrågasätter hon allt på nytt, och det dröjer inte länge förrän tankarna vandrar tillbaka till det enkla lyxlivet med Alastair.

"Peter log och kysste mig igen samtidigt som han återigen lät två fingrar bearbeta min fitta och en mjuk tumme gled över min alltmer svullna klitoris." När den barnfria helgen kommer vill jag mest av allt stanna hemma i soffan framför Netflix med ett glas vin. Men när en granne propsar på att jag ska komma på den årliga grillfesten i grannskapet lovar jag att göra en kort visit, och när jag gör mig iordning inför kvällen sprider sig en förväntan inom mig. Stämningen på festen är uppslupen.

Hon har en fartfylld karriär som hon älskar, väninnorna i BBI (Bokklubben Basic Instinct) och en fin relation med sin snart vuxna dotter. Det enda hon saknar är samvaron med en man. En relation som skänker såväl spänning som trygghet. Som både är fysiskt och mentalt stimulerande. En livskamrat helt enkelt.
