Then, her stories and novellas were categorized as futuristic fantasy (or gothic romance, in some cases) for a relatively small market. One senses in her writing that Ms. Smith was creating her fiction more to amuse herself than to leave any lasting legacy — though she most certainly did so.

It also deals with the legendary John Wallace (Captain Jack) Crawford (1847 - 1917), known as "The Poet Scout". Crawford was an American adventurer, educator, and master storyteller about the Wild West.
