The year is 2836: 800 years since the great war. Liberty has grown up in this postapocalyptic climate. Her home is an airship built by her adopted father. It has been five years since his death, and each day is just another day of trying to survive in a hostile environment. That is until a dying friend of her father asks if she'll take custody of a small, childlike robot.

The Great War had decimated the world, killing millions and wiping out all the modern technologies of that time. After many of the survivors had died from starvation and thirst, the few remaining figured out by trial and error that if they were going to survive, they needed rules.

A quick trip up the East Coast quickly turns into a life-and-death experience for Harmony when hurricane-force winds plunge her airship into the ocean. When Airus drifts upon a tiny island, she is faced with a deflated balloon, two broken robots, a damaged friction engine, and the fear of running out of fresh water. This might be enough to discourage the bravest heart, but Harmony is determined to stay alive. She simply refuses to believe she'll never see her family or Griffin again.

Freedom isn't a place Harmony would normally travel to, but she's there on a mission to rescue her brother and cousin, Walker and Journey. Since The Great War, the world has become a barren and unfriendly place. If Harmony didn't already know that, she certainly does the moment she winds up in the walled-off city of Freedom. It turns out that this city is anything but free. Its people are ruled by a group of huge, spiderlike robots, aptly named Overseers.

Not an amount. Just how long is forever? What happens when time ends never? What will we do without watching a clock? What will we do after eternity has lost its lock? Will we use it learning to use our new wings? Or will we stand around praising the King? Will we spend it holding the family we had missed? Or use it to learn the names of the angels in our midst? Forever is ticks of time we will never have to count. Forever is a gathering of moments and not an amount.
