Fitzgerald difatti, convinto di avere commesso un errore strutturale, raccontando "il vero inizio" retrospettivamente, decise di rimettere mano alla struttura del libro, riordinando gli eventi in senso cronologico sulla sua copia cartacea. Pur pubblicata nel 1948, questa versione sarebbe stata in seguito dichiarata "apocrifa", per infine ritornare alla versione del 1934.
