As always, a lot of eccentric and fantastic things take place; such as a boy creating a magic sawhorse and making a pumpkin-headed man into a living, kind (but dumb) person...! Be prepared also to encounter a particularly wicked witch, as well as the good old Scarecrow.

"Temple Trouble" is a sci-fi novella by author H. Beam Piper, published in 1957. It is part of his "Paratime Police" series. In this extremely intricate and complex story the Paratime Police faces the trouble and potential dangers of travellers in parallel times... and there might be millions of parallel times! "Were you waiting long, gentlemen?' Stranor Sleth asked. 'I was holding Sunset Sacrifice up in the temple.' 'No, we just got here,' Brannad Klav said.

"The Patchwork Girl of Oz" is a children's novel by L. Frank Baum, the 7th set in the "Land of Oz". Characters include Woozy, Ojo"the Unlucky", Unc Nunkie, Dr. Pipt, Scraps (the patchwork girl), and many wonderful others! The Patchwork Girl, a truly sunny and optimistic creature, sets out into the incomparable Land of Oz to help her friend Ojo to find a magic potion in order to save his Uncle. They need five things for the potion, and these things are very strange indeed, almost as strange as everything that will happen!

Published in 1959, this is a classic and extremely funny sci-fi story by Randall Garrett. The FBI learns that the Russians have a sensationally brilliant and dangerous spy who can read minds! So they search for someone who can detect the telepath and find a crazy old lady who thinks that she's Queen Elizabeth Tudor... Get ready for a perfect mix of laughter and nail biting.

"Mother Goose in Prose" is a collection of twenty-two children's stories based on Mother Goose nursery rhymes. It was the first children's book written by author L. Frank Baum, published in 1897. The author himself gives a great introduction to the book: "Many of these nursery rhymes are complete tales in themselves, telling their story tersely but completely; there are others which are but bare suggestions, leaving the imagination to weave in the details of the story."

"The Little Mermaid" is a fairy tale about a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul. When she rises up to the surface one day, she watches a birthday celebration being held on a ship in honor of a handsome prince, and falls in love with him from a safe distance. A violent storm hits, and the Little Mermaid saves the prince from drowning. She delivers him unconscious to the shore near a temple.

"Jewels of Gwahlur" is one of the original tales starring the sword and sorcery hero Conan the Cimmerian (a.k.a. Conan the Barbarian), written by author Robert E. Howard. Set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age, it concerns several parties, including Conan, fighting over and hunting for the eponymous treasure in Hyborian Africa... As always, lots of action, appetizing but dangerous women and no shortage of suspense!

An intriguing novella by author Murray Leinster, published in 1949, about machines which have the capacity to retain emotions for the missions they accomplish, and weird signals from the future, which annihilate less advanced mechanisms! A classic piece of sci-fi pulp by the masterful Leinster.

"The Adventure of the Speckled Band" is a Sherlock Holmes story. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle believed this was his best Holmes story. Plot: Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson rise unusually early one morning to meet a young woman named Helen Stoner. Helen fears that her life is being threatened. Helen's twin sister had died almost two years earlier, shortly before she was also to be married. Helen had heard her sister's dying words, "The speckled band!" but was unable to decode their meaning.

"Fables for the Frivolous" is one of the earliest works by the American parodist Guy Wetmore Carryl. These fables are adapted from Jean de la Fontaine's original writings. The Aesop-style fables are written in verse, and are light-hearted retellings of fables from two centuries before, each ending with a moral and a pun. Among the more celebrated of the fables are "The Persevering Tortoise" and the "Pretentious Hare", "The Arrogant Frog" and the "Superior Bull", and "The Sycophantic Fox" and "The Gullible Raven".

"The Devil in Iron" is one of the original Conan the Cimmerian (a.k.a. Conan the Barbarian) books, published in 1934. The plot concerns the resurrection of a mythical demon due to the theft of a sacred dagger, and an unrelated trap - in the lovely form of a noble born sensational beauty called Octavia - that lures Conan to the island fortress roamed by the demon... Get ready for a wonderfully entertaining listening experience!

"The Interstellar Medical Service was just about the only remaining galactic organization that every one of the hundreds of inhabited planets respected. So when their service broke down in Star Sector Twelve, it created a very dangerous situation. When Calhoun took his Med ship out of overdrive near that sector's planet Weald, he was vaguely aware of the risks. But the crisis came home to him with a crash the moment he radioed in for landing coordinates.

"Omnilingual" is a sci-fi short story written by H. Beam Piper. The story was originally published in 1957 in magazine-form. The work is unusual in focusing on the problem of archaeology on an alien culture... An expedition from Earth to Mars discovers a deserted city, the remains of an advanced civilization that died out 50,000 years before! The human scientists recover books and documents left behind, and are puzzled by their contents. Earnest young archeologist Martha Dane deciphers a few words.

"Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz" is the fourth book (among many!) set in the Land of Oz by author L. Frank Baum, published in 1908. Written shortly after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and around the time Baum moved to California, the book starts with an earthquake in California. Dorothy and others - such as Eureka (her cat), Zeb (her cousin) - are riding a buggy being pulled by a cab-horse named Jim, when suddenly they are swallowed up by cracks in the earth, and fall into an underground cavern, where they begin their adventures, including meeting a race of people made entirely out of vegetables... this will be the least strange part of this wonderful story!
