Franz Kafka se dedicó intensamente a la literatura. Su escritura se caracteriza por una síntesis entre el absurdo, la ironía y la lucidez. Un mundo de sueños que, paradójicamente, describe con un realismo minucioso. Kafka sólo publicó, en vida, algunas historias cortas. Su obra pasó casi inadvertida. Ella nos ha llegado en contra de su voluntad, pues ordenó a su íntimo amigo y albacea literario Max Brod que, a su muerte, quemara todos sus manuscritos.

A transformação (Die Verwandlung, 1915) foi publicada originariamente na revista expressionista Weiße Blätter, que abrigava textos da nova geração de escritores alemães como Heinrich Mann, Ernst Bloch e Rosa Luxemburgo. A novela narra a singular história de Gregor Samsa, um caixeiro viajante que certo dia acorda em sua cama transformado em inseto. Plena de significados simbólicos, a obra deu origem às mais diversas interpretações.

Franz Kafka escribió "Carta al padre" en 1919. En ella el autor aborda la difícil relación con su padre. La obra se estructura como una larga carta en la que Kafka expresa sus sentimientos y emociones hacia su padre, quien era una figura dominante y autoritaria en su vida. Kafka explora los conflictos emocionales y psicológicos que surgieron a raíz de la relación con su padre. El autor analiza sus sentimientos de impotencia, miedo e inseguridad frente a la figura paterna, y reflexiona sobre cómo esta relación afectó su vida personal y creativa.

"A Report to an Academy" (German: "Ein Bericht für eine Akademie") is a short story by Franz Kafka, written and published in 1917. In the story, an ape named Red Peter, who has learned to behave like a human, presents to an academy the story of how he effected his transformation. The story was first published by Martin Buber in the German monthly Der Jude, along with another of Kafka's stories, "Jackals and Arabs" ("Schakale und Araber").

L'ultimo romanzo, incompiuto, di Kafka, la cui stesura ebbe inizio nel gennaio 1922 (l'autore non ha ancora quarant'anni e ne mancano due alla morte per tubercolosi faringea) e proseguì fino al settembre dello stesso anno. Non esiste una versione definitiva dell'autore che anzi dispose che il manoscritto fosse distrutto. Più che un romanzo "Il castello" si può definire un insieme di frammenti in cui il personaggio K., arrivato a un non-luogo, un misero villaggio immerso nel freddo, tenta di avvicinarsi alla meta, il Castello appunto.

The Metamorphosis is one of the most commonly referenced books when you talk about absurd literature. It is heralded as a masterpiece of the existential literature genre because of how it demands the reader to accept the absurdity of the world just as it is. Although some of the events of the story are fantastical in nature, the ideas it conveys about existence, the meaning of life, and humanity are relatable to us in the real world, too.
