Today's show takes a quick look at why and how sex education has evolved in the United States. Susie reads from an article in Newsweek that featured a story written by Johanna Cornblatt. Going back to the 1800s, we see the same worries about "evil" sex and plans to control the young, just as with today's abstinence-only sex-ed. The article is full of strange and fun historical facts, including warnings about syphilis, prostitutes, the 1960s sexual revolution, and HIV and AIDS.

Part one of another New York City interview. Susie speaks with Leonore Tiefer, a sex therapist you'll never forget. Tiefer initiated the Campaign for a New View of Women's Sexual Problems to challenge the medicalization of dealing with women's sexual issues. In part 2 of an interview with sexual theorist and therapist Dr. Leonore Tiefer, Susie and Leonore discuss the differences between sexual addiction, sexual compulsion, and obsession. They also look at what it takes to be an effective sex coach. Tiefer's feminist theories inform her findings on why people have more sexual apprehensions today, which has lead to a boom for the pharmaceutical industry.

In the second part of Susie's interview with journalist Debbie Nathan, Debbie talks about why so many people say they're addicted to porn, and she explains how she fell into this often strange line of work. Debbie also talks about her new book Pornography: A Groundwork Guide, which is the first book for young adults about the history, politics, effects, business practices, working conditions, genres, and future of porn.

Susie kicks off her NYC interview series with a two-part interview with journalist Debbie Nathan. Debbie is the expert on sex scandals and is perhaps best known for her book, Satan's Silence: Ritual Abuse and the Making of a Modern American Witch Hunt about some of the widely covered sex panic cases that rocked the U.S. in the '80s and '90s, such as the McMartin daycare case in California. Debbie makes a case for why more people, not less, should be allowed to view child pornography on the Intenet.

Susie says while the drug companies are scrambling to offer pills, creams and sprays to fix all sort of sexual dysfunction, when it comes to premature ejaculation, she says the term itself doesn't make any sense. She says the proper question is "Premature for whom?" and it's worth thinking about some ways to reframe even that question.
