I survived the plague that killed millions. I escaped from the ravenous monsters when the dead refused to stay dead. I ran for my life when a last-ditch effort to contain the spread of the infection did nothing but blast the last remaining survivors to smithereens.

Maybe not all is lost for those believing they are beyond being saved or who don't give a crap about such mundane concepts.

Finding the French Resistance was only the first step in achieving their mission. With impossible odds looming ahead, Bree is forced to bury the hatchet and work with Bucky Hamilton and his men to get to their destination - a secret underground lab previously part of the serum project that might just hold the most valuable thing on earth: a cure for the zombie virus.

Chased by hordes of zombies, Nate and Bree flee the city with what remains of their merry band of miscreants. But even when most of them survive the first day, they are far from safe - because there is no safe place left. The fight for survival forces them to become resourceful, and soon they realize that the undead might not be their only problem. In this new world, it's each man or woman out for themselves - and just because someone has a pulse doesn't necessarily mean they make a good ally.

More than two years have passed since Bree and Nate disappeared. After leading a nomadic lifestyle for several months, they have started to rebuild a semblance of normalcy, moving between several established camps as the seasons change. Life is simple - hunting their own food, building weapons, even growing produce. Far away from the security of the settlements, they take care to stay unnoticed and, if the need arises, cull the odd horde of shamblers. Until one night, their idyllic off-the-grid lifestyle comes to a sudden end when they are overwhelmed and captured by forces unknown.

After a long winter spent hunkering down in Wyoming, Bree, Nate, and the gang are back on the road. The harsh temperatures up in the northern regions might have decimated the undead scourge somewhat, but soon they have to face reality: it's not just zombies that are out there to hunt people down and kill them. For humanity to have a fighting chance to rebuild a semblance of civilization, everyone will have to work together - and resources are scarce. Someone will have to go out there and face the danger.

What she doesn't count on is a group of terrorists blowing up all the entrances to the building and taking her and a select few others hostage. Bree soon finds herself conflicted. Not only does she know their charismatic leader, she also starts to suspect that there is a lot more to this than the hunt for an illegal bioweapon....

When failure is not an option, the only way is forward — and might just demand the ultimate sacrifice.

Civilization is on the brink of crumbling - and this time not just due to the zombie apocalypse. The roads have become dangerous, and what havens have been established are no longer safe. Murmurs of unrest - or maybe even a brewing civil war - are getting loud. No longer are zombies the only thing preying on those that think to brave the world outside the settlements. Yet as grave as things are getting, this is not the main issue that is plaguing Nate's mind. He has bigger fish to fry.

Now that it boils down to survival of the *ssholes, decisions have to be made and sacrifices are in order. And as much as I would like to keep my firm stance on the moral high ground, I’m really not that fond of the consequences. If only there was an alternate solution for my problems...but as I’ve recently found out, that comes with its own massive downsides.

Bree findet sich bald in einem Konflikt wieder.
