There are some debts you can't repay....

Josh Walker is loyal, reckless, and every girl's dream. But he only has eyes for December Howard, the girl he has yearned for since his high school hockey days. Together they have survived grief, the military, distance, and time as they've fought for stolen weekends between his post at Ft. Rucker and her schooling at Vanderbilt. Now that Josh is a medevac pilot and Ember is headed toward graduation, they're moving on - and in - together.

Ember never wanted the Army life, but loving Josh means accepting whatever the army dictates - even when that means saying goodbye as Josh heads to Afghanistan, a country that nearly killed him once before and that took her father. But filling their last days together with love, passion, and plans for their future doesn't temper Ember's fear, and if there's one thing she's learned from her father's death, it's that there are some obstacles even love can't conquer.

Flight school is over.

This is war.

Hollowed Ground

I was definitely the most emotionally invested in this book. I cried throughout the entirety! Like tears streaming down my face trying to gasp for air. Rebecca has a gift for completely ripping out my heart and stomping on it then dusting it off and sewing it back together.

There were times where I was so angry and wanted to shake Josh, but his journey was really important and Rebecca gave a very real example of how PTSD oozes into every aspect of your life. How grief and guilt can powerfully motivate our decisions.

I’m actually terrified for the next book because of what happened in this one. This one put me through all the emotions.,we witness war, death, injury, PTSD, grief, pain, heartbreak, healing,,and perseverance. It’s clear Rebecca has first hand experience of the bittersweet journey of being in the military or being married into it. This was such an authentic story about the very real pain and confusion that goes into trying to build a life while in the military. Some things hit so close to home.

I’m sure a lot of people wanted to shake Josh and make him snap out of what he was doing. But it’s also a good look at all the complicated emotions and wounds that people who come back from war experience. PTSD controls you, and witnessing someone you love die breeds guilt and heartbreak that alters the way you see life and how you think. It’s very very clear Josh was battling himself, his mind, and his trauma. Rebecca gave a lot of authenticity to Josh’s struggle. A lot of times those emotions are all consuming and a person makes decisions for the better of someone else because they feel so dark and broken they believe they no longer deserve the person. It ultimately is born from wanting to protect whom you love. Which was a deep layered experience to read and a full emotional rollercoaster.

I was so invested in the wellbeing of Josh, December, and their love that it overwhelmed me. I love them so much and cared endlessly that it felt like I was experiencing the pain along with them. Rebecca is brilliant at writing characters the reader connects with on such a profound level that we sob and have our hearts break along side the characters. It’s why I love her books so much. She gets us so emotionally invested we have our hearts ravaged and the happy ending is hard fought which makes it all the more sweet.

Josh and December and WILL CARTER 😭😭😭 will stay with me for a long long time. What a gorgeously heartbreaking meaningful story.

The narrators were flawless. For such an emotional story their performances really added to the experience. Teddy Hamilton could literally narrate my medical records and I’d love every second but his voice was particularly wonderful and fitting for Josh.

Heart wrenching and beautiful

This was so beautifully written and performed. I’m a sucker for Teddy Hamilton regardless of what he’s narrating but they both knocked itnout of the park with this one! The characters have such love for one another that they shred themselves apart doing what they believe is right for the other. The dependence of honor and loyalty.. Lord have mercy! The tears I shed over this book! This whole series really!! Hits you right in the heart and yanks the heartstrings with the force of a Mack truck.

Oh the tears

This book! I’m not even sure where to begin because I was crying through most of it. The raw emotion in enemy word. Pure perfection!

What an Emotional Journey, Worth every tear
