Sometimes the wrong side could be the right side.

My father never loved me.

I was never good enough for him because I was different.

My differences made me vulnerable to his cruelty, and a mistake I made brought a deeper level of hell into my life.

When my curiosity got the better of me one night, it ended with me being forced out of the world I’d learned to exist in before I was thrust into another.

This new world is darker and more dangerous.

It’s filled with lies, deceit, and pain.

I have rules I live by now because the wicked walk these halls.

1) Never underestimate the level of a monster’s depravity.

2) Never take anything at face value.

3) Fight, always, even if you’re doing it from the shadows.

4) Remember everything…Because they will, and they will use it against you.

If I have to play the twisted games at Chapel Crest, I will.

For now.

They just need to understand, the darkness comes for us all, and I’m the king of it.

Shadow is book 4.5 in The Boys of Chapel Crest and should be listened to after Sinful. Please check author’s note for warnings.

I will start off this review saying Church is back!!! I am not sure why the narrator interpreted him as more subdued for the last book or two but Arden embraced his crazy in this one and I couldn’t be more here for it. Knowing a tiny portion of what will be happening in the next/last book of the series due to the other books it’s connected too, I really hope we get this brand of Church for it!

The plot starts off emotionally rough (in the best way) with this one as the characters face the aftermath of what Adam did at the end of Sinful. There are some heavy consequences that everyone has to stomach and deal with and that’s before a reappearance from Everett. How will everyone deal with the emotional aftermath as they try to navigate Everett enough to stay alive? The twists and turns of the ride the author takes us on in this one are fantastical.

All of the narrators are truly superb in this one but J. Tipstone, Michael Gallagher and Stella Ripley kill it in my humble opinion.

the level of excitement & anxiety I got from the horsemen & the sugar daddy being involved, is killing me. I love this series. it has made me go through all the emotions. I've cried, laughed, gasped, been happy, sad, upset, mad, excited and definitely anxious. K.G. you have pulled me in completely. Your whole Chaos Universe, lives rent free in my head. but.... The Boys Of Chapel Crest .... these are MY people. I can't wait to see what's next. 🖤

Absolutely — here’s a cleaner Audible-ready version with **no emojis**, smoother flow, and still high energy:
This audiobook had me completely feral.

Shadow’s story is dark, brutal, and somehow still deeply emotional. He has spent his entire life being treated like a tool—used, controlled, and forced to survive in the shadows—until Sirena Lawrence walks in and changes everything. The obsession, the loyalty, and the “I will destroy the world for you” devotion made this impossible to put down.

One of my favorite parts was the growth, especially Sirena’s. I loved watching her stop being treated like something fragile and instead be pushed to train, fight, and face her demons. Seeing her step fully into her power—and her darker side—was both satisfying and empowering.

Shadow also finally proves he is not a pushover, and I found myself genuinely cheering for him. The character development across the group dynamic was excellent as well, especially where Church is concerned. Without spoilers, there is a moment involving “that list” that completely stunned me. I never expected to see Dante Church in that light.

And Sully? I need it to be his turn next. I am ready.

The audiobook performance was absolutely elite. Stella Ripley, Edward Black, J. Tipstone, Joe Arden, Michael Gallagher, Anthony Palmini, and Sean Masters nailed the emotion, tension, spice, and psychological intensity of every scene. Hearing Sirena’s shift from sweet to monstrous in audio form was especially addictive and elevated the entire experience.

I am officially obsessed. Five stars with no notes. I need the next book immediately.
