Sex and rock & roll are my top priorities. I mean, let's face it, they're my only priorities.

As frontman of Austin's most popular metal band, I have it all. But when a car accident nearly kills my best friend, I'm rocketed back to memories of that horrible night, all those years ago when I lost my family at the hands of a drunk driver.

That's trauma I'd rather leave buried, so when Nicole, aka Arson Nic, the roller derby dynamo, skates into my bed, I'm more than happy to bury myself in her sweet solace. What I don't expect is to wake up with feelings.

When a once-in-a-lifetime tour opportunity takes me back to the Cherokee reservation where I grew up, I'll have to face the past I buried long ago if I want to take the road home to a future with Nicole.

Book two of the award-winning Lost in Austin series, The Road Home, is an interracial rockstar/roller derby romance that can be listened to as a standalone. It was the 2022 winner of the Readers' Favorite Gold Medal for Romance–Sizzle and a 2022 Next Generation Indie Book Awards Finalist for Multicultural Fiction.

JAKE && NICOLE

This was my first ever Christina Berry book and I loved it!
I have been in a rockstar romance era lately and I thought I would try a new author. I was not disappointed!

Jake is all about sex and rock & roll. But when his best friend gets into a car accident, his past comes in like a fright train. And when Nicole pops up and is offering some relief, the last thing he is expecting is to fall into feelings.

Nicole doesn’t do feelings. But when the one man she doesn’t want anything to do with happens to be the only one she feels with, it becomes a problem.

Jake gets invited on the road with a larger metal band. While he is away, he keeps in touch with Nicole. Their relationship grows on the road away from each other. Jake runs into many demons along the way and is forced to face them head on!

This book was not what I was expecting.
I loved that it was all from the MMCs POV.
The duet narration was amazing though.
Maxine Mitchell and Gabriel Spires did amazing!

I’ll definitely be wanting to listen to more of Christina’s books!

When the story first started, I was not really fans of either Nicole or Jake. I thought Nicole was clingy and Jake was a player. Yet, as the story progressed, I felt for them both. I warmed up to Nicole first and then Jake.

The range of emotions that both Jake and Nicole experienced was a lot. It was not an easy road but worth the ending.

I really liked this next addition on this series. I have quickly fallen in love with these books. They are very emotional. You can feel all the emotions even more by listening to the audiobook. Narrators, Maxine Mitchell and Gabriel Spires are amazing lending their voices to Nicole and Jake as well as the other characters.

Emotional read

This was a nice fast paced listen, I had no problem getting sucked into this story from the beginning. I have not read/listened to the first book in this series, and it did a great job being a stand alone. We get all the backstory on the other characters right away and not having read the first book, I didn’t feel lost. The only thing I think it would have changed was my attachment to the characters right away. I loved every part of Jake’s story and the healing he goes through to heal and be a better person than his past and to not repeat the same mistakes as the ones that came before him. And Nicole’s past and healing also was heartwarming. I love the found family aspect in this story. I’m not normally a huge family of the surprise pregnancy trope, but it felt so much different in this story for some reason. I really enjoyed it. Maxine Mitchell and Gabriel Spires did a fantastic job with these characters, and I felt that Gabriel did a really really good job with the characters Cherokee heritage.

This story was beautiful! A man who was completely lost after some trauma finding light and the end of the tunnel is one I will always love. Picking up where the previous book ended giving us a a full picture of the best friend dynamic was so full circle. This man was walking around the world completely lost and finally found his way back home! The way that Christina was able to tastefully show so much culture in this story was nothing short of amazing. Watching or rather listening to Jake find his partner in life through an odd way was perfect. Nicole helped Jake face some of the struggles he avoided in a way that she didn’t even know she was doing was perfect! The way these two found love even though they weren’t looking for it was perfect. Nicole and Jake are a great couple. The dynamic between them was great. They brought the best out in each other! Jake facing his trauma and demons was just what he needed! Also he’s a great friend to both Greg and Ari. I commend him for the way he handled Greg throughout this story. I truly Enjoyed this story and was sad when it ended because I could have listened the these twos love story for so much longer!

Maxine Mitchell and Gabriel spires did such a fantastic job at bringing these two for life. I was interested to see who would bring this story to life and I’ll tell ya they did not dissapoint. Maxine did fantastic and bringing the cold misunderstood Nicole to life in a way only she could do. And Gabriel brought so much emotion to Jake’s character it was absolutely perfect! This pairing was amazing!

A story I’ll think about for a while.
