This is the best one since she killed off Jeffrey, not that I’ve completely forgiven her for that or finished properly grieving for him

fabulous twists, turns, and subplots

This story had so many twists and turns. I was trying to figure out who killed Mercy after only a few chapters in. Having Jon, her own son, as her killer was soooo unexpected, but I loved it. I felt like Mercy, Dave, Christopher, Papa, and Bitty were "real people" you know. I've heard their stories before, in real life. I hated Papa and Bitty so much by the end. They ruined the lives of everyone in their family, and for what: money, that neither ever got to enjoy. The stories of Dave and Jon seem so real, because some victims don't ever understand what their abuser has sought to steal from them, which is their humanity... The raw emotion of Will during Mercy's final moments almost made me cry. Honest. Will is such a good person, but he's tormented by the abuse he suffered and the mother that he never knew. I would love to see an actual acknowledgement that Amanda Wagner always wanted to be Will's mother, heck is his mother. I think that would make him stop doubting himself so much.

Anyway, I love the Will Trent books so much so that I listened to all of the other books again in preparation for this book. I am a true fan... I also love, love, love the narrator/ reader... I am definitely a Karen Slaughter fan for life. Another fabulous audio book.
