Can love and desire survive diplomacy—and defiance?

Charlotte Tyler is no stranger to navigating high-stakes negotiations. As the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, she’s prepared for political minefields and diplomatic brinkmanship. What she isn’t prepared for is Katya Romanova—a defiant, dazzling Russian dissident whose asylum plea becomes an international flashpoint. A descendant of Russian nobility turned outspoken LGBTQ+ activist, Katya is everything Charlotte can’t afford to want: unpredictable, untouchable, and undeniably magnetic.

For Katya, fleeing Russia was a matter of life and death. She didn’t expect her fate to rest in the hands of a poised, by-the-book American diplomat—or that the ambassador’s cool gaze would stir something warm and dangerous inside her. As global tensions escalate and powerful forces close in, Katya must decide whether to trust Charlotte with more than her future—perhaps even her heart.

In a world where secrets can spark wars and love can derail careers, Affairs of State, the second book in the Power & Passion series, is a gripping story of courage, connection, and forbidden romance at the highest levels of power.

As far as virtual voice goes, it is usually really bad. But in this series the virtual voice is actually tolerable. Yes, there are a lot of mistakes with pronunciation of certain words, and lack of emotions, but the voice isn't as annoying as most.

The relationships in this political series always cause controversy and one must give up their career for a sustainable relationship out of the spotlight. Although in this book the Russian singer will always be in the spotlight.

There is a little spice in this book, but not enough to rate more than 🌶️🔥

It was like the virtual voice was playing a joke on the listener. For one character, every time they said "I" ( ī ) it was pronounced "i" (ih-soft i). And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The reading deeply and negativity effects the enjoyment of what would have otherwise been a great story. Distracting from what I imagine would otherwise have been a wonderful book had they hired a voice actor to read it.
