Back Lands magazine for outdoor enthusiasts has featured Robin Hawke and her outfitting business several times. When her friend, Josie Whittle, the editor-in-chief of the magazine, asks Robin to take a group of writers and photographers out for a week Robin is happy to do it until she finds out that one of the writers going on the trip has never even been camping, let alone gone on a multi-day hike.

After getting fired from a business magazine, her life in ruins, and forced to go home to Colorado where her father has her under his thumb, Marianne Jones is lucky to be writing for anyone. Her new boss at Back Lands magazine, Josie, insists Marianne go out on a weeklong hike with some other writers and photographers from the magazine. The only hiking Marianne does is at the mall, and she's never been camping, so she is not happy about this trip.

Marianne makes Robin mad before the hike even starts, and Robin assumes Marianne is just another snooty socialite forced to work by her parents. Both women try to ignore the sparks flying between them on the trails in vain. These two women with nothing in common, except broken hearts, are thrown together by fate. Can they find common ground, or will tragedy take away the chance for them to find out what they could have had?

Robin Hawke runs an outfitting business and takes groups on hikes or hunting in the mountains of the Indian Reservation that is her home. Back Lands magazine has booked a lot of trips and Josie Whittle, Editor, asks her to take her newest writer on her first home and camping trip. Marianne Jones was fired for her last job because she wouldn’t reveal a source for her latest story. Two women with nothing in common clash and broken hearts need to find healing and love to the mountains. Great performance and story. Recommend.

Robin and Marianne start off rocky but end up finding out they are wonderful together. This was a good read!

Cute, fast pace, romance. Not a lot of character building based on the book being so short. Decent plot. Some spice.

While the story was entertaining, and the tone of the the voice artist was pleasant the rendition was very stilted and formal. In parts it sounded as if there reading it for the first time. Made the audio book hard to listen to and at times I found myself not paying attention.

City Slicker Lesbian seeks wildly adept Wilderness Women… That's not quite how they met! No one in this story is sipping pina coladas but they might get caught in the rain AND the snow! A series of highly unusual, yet converging events, practcally conspire to bring our main characters together! And that, my darlings is half the fun of this amazing romance! But wait, there’s MORE- add in a bunch of really interesting mysteries from environmental issues to murder, an awesome backdrop of nature and Native American culture, and lots of growth, revelations, revolutions, and my all-time favorite- standing up to the patriarchy! There are also some beautiful men in this story who love and respect women, so it’s well-rounded.

And the narrator did an excellent job with a multitude of voices! Even the male voices seemed real, My one tiny note- I think a line in the HEA deserved an edit. Personally, I would have brought back the bird! That’s far more poetic! Can’t say more- you just have to… you know!

Overall- it’s great! And I’m trying to figure out how the author put so much into this one, shorter than most, romance novel. First and foremost, the author typically avoids ridiculous miscommunications. Our characters actually talk things out! Wow! Second, the author avoids endless obsessive sapphic brain processing!

If you are wondering- is it possible to have a fun, hot, sexy, fascinating, heart-pounding, and heart-fulfilling romance without that “typical” stuff, the answer is a resounding “YES!” This is a breath of fresh air and I will look for more books by this author! Highly recommend!

These two could have fallen in love throwing snowballs at each other, but NO, it took an avalanche!
