They overcame his mother’s plots and broke both their curses, but can they survive his inheritance?

Amira Brindonu has won. The man she loves has been freed from his curse, and her mother’s people have chosen to ally with their cause. Even as Amira and Daindreth celebrate victory and Thadred grows in his power as a sorcerer, trouble stirs on the horizon. Not everyone is ready to recognize the rightful heir. Vesha’s reign brought the empire peace and prosperity. Many lords and barons must be convinced if they are to swear allegiance to Daindreth. Meanwhile, Vesha seeks out greater power. In a desperate effort to protect the empire, she will make yet another deal with a fallen goddess. And this time, Vesha is willing to sacrifice anything and anyone—even herself.

Daindreth’s Sorceress is the fourth book in the five-book Daindreth’s Assassin fantasy romance series.

I love the story! Each character has a logical progression of experiences and choices, with no paper doll cutouts filling in for fluff.
Delivery seems slow? Speech is deliberate and clear, but it felt sloggy to get through scenes. I sped it up to 1.45 or 1.5. That way, the telling got easier to listen to.

Pacing

For an author, Elizabeth Wheatley did an excellent job as narrator. Authors are usually the worst. But she would have done her books more credit if she had let a professional actor do it. I don’t know why authors think they can narrate. It is so different from writing.
One of the main characters, Thadred sounds like a whining kid not a Don Juan. The voice is so grating and hard to listen to. Then the book on Thared, “Bastard’s Honor” was hard to slug through with that voice, that I had to stop and rest. Again and again . If Elizabeth narrates anymore of her books I will read not listen to.

The writing is outstanding, the reader not so

The series, as a whole, is captivating. The narration has improved significantly between book one and this one and it's actually been a joy to ride along. I'm looking forward to finishing this series as well as continuing to read others by this author.

This one has been my favorite in the series by far! The highlight is definitely the trial scene but no spoilers!
