Ah the sweetness of second chance love

Rebel ran away from Angel Fire Falls ten years ago...and broke Elliott’s heart. Now she’s returned to be the dog trainer for a program that matches service dogs with vets suffering from PTSD/TBI. Elliott is furious and does not want to work with the woman who ripped his heart out as a teenager. However, over the period of the program, the pair are honest with each other and mend fences. Just as things seem to be falling into place, they have the rug pulled out from under them. Will Elliott allow Rebel to walk away for a second time?

So happy to find an author who doesn't have to use the F word in every paragraph. I thoroughly enjoyed this book beginning to end.

A heart wrenching and compelling story with poignant narration!

Elliott and Rebel’s second chance romance reunites a highly successful money manager on leave from his high pressure finance job and a dog whisperer who walked away from him 10 years ago when she had no choice but to break both of their hearts. Months earlier Elliott’s family’s island resort was in trouble so he took a leave of absence that has to end very soon or he’ll lose his life savings. He has no intention of staying on the island where his own painful memories haunt him every day. When his family agrees to host a service dog matching camp for disabled veterans he has no idea he’ll be forced to work alongside the woman who shattered him 10 years ago. I had great empathy for both characters as Elliott’s hostility makes working together a lesson in frustration as Rebel willingly accepts the blame for circumstances that were beyond her control. It’s a combative and heart wrenching stalemate in a compelling story of sacrifice and forgiveness that kept me engaged from start to finish as Rebel’s insecurities and secrets are slowly revealed and Elliott’s misconceptions slowly lead to understanding and a rekindled love. With her career on the line and the resort’s reputation at stake from a surly sponsor who makes Rebel’s life miserable both characters will have to work together to avoid disaster both professionally and personally. It’s an engaging, yet heart wrenching, story of shattered trust that must be rebuilt between the hero and heroine, the disabled vets and their rescue dogs, and a family unit that was rocked by tragedy many years ago. I highly recommend the story, the series, and the excellent narration performance delivered by Vanessa Edwin.

I dare you

Elliott & Rebel: triggers-TBI, alcoholism, PTSD, veterans with injuries, service dogs, cancer, DUI, homelessness. so, we're back in Angel fire falls and this time, thing 1 or Elliot is up to bat. this book is a second chance romance. so, his soon to be sister in law has now brought in more foot traffic to the town all year and has a new plan for the resort... a service dog training program and she's hired the perfect person. enter, Rebel... who's not a stranger to AFF or the Remington. When Elliot finds out that the trainer of the program is none other than his ex, his head nearly explodes. I have to say that I didn't really like Elliot in this book. he's what extremely mean and rude and never really gave Rebel a chance to explain until everything started going wrong and they were getting closer. Rebel's backstory of heartbreaking even if it's not a specific trigger. but Elliott has a secret as well, something that has kept him away from home all this time. it's a really good story, Elliott just grated on my never for most of it. 10 ⭐ for the dogs alone. 🥰🥰🥰

Definitely liked the first story better!

I will start off this review by saying that I truly enjoyed the first book of the series and you really should read it first before reading this story.

The h was very difficult to like due to the constant self-loathing and, at times, spineless behavior. The H starts out as a prick as he was upset about the h running off without saying anything and staying away for a solid 10 years. He softens quickly and becomes the rational member of the relationship.

The end is still driving me nuts a few days after finishing the story. The h does something stupid and the H gets upset but then essentially takes the blame for the h's idiotic behavior. Grrr!

Shelley is definitely a talented author and I will continue to read her books!
