The novella Darkness San Francisco takes place in a world with no power. The world lost all electricity after a solar storm destroyed grids around the globe. Four full-length adventure romance novels were written in that post-apocalypse dystopian setting (the Darkness Series). They detail the trials and tribulations of a group of strong lesbians who must endure together to not only survive but thrive.

Settling in the small town of Astoria, Oregon, they face many external and internal challenges, but in the fourth novel, Wind Dancer, a new evil emerges—a pirate king named Captain Poissoit who is pillaging the West Coast. Listening to the books in the order they were written is strongly recommended: Darkness Falls, Darkness Remains, Darkness United, and Wind Dancer. Although each is a complete story, they are much more enjoyable, as the listener gets to know the cast of characters as they appear in the series.

In Darkness San Francisco, two main characters from the series, US Army Major Grace Hamilton and her partner, Ship Captain Meg O’Grady, set sail from Astoria to track down the pirate king and bring him to justice. They will chase the outlaw on their ship, Wind Dancer, to his lair in San Francisco, if necessary, to capture him. The Darkness San Francisco novella focuses solely on their adventure. Although much still happens in the city of Astoria, none of the lives of the women there are included in this book. Their stories are set aside for another day.

This ending was quite a surprise. Great plot twist, great action, great redemption.
An excellent series.

This novella continues with the apocalyptic “Darkness Series.” It’s a great addition to the ongoing series. Meg, Grace, Cyd and the crew of the Wind Dancer set out to capture the notorious pirate Captain Poissoit. Poissoit has been sailing around, stealing from the already barely surviving inhabitants of small coastal towns near San Francisco. He is not above murdering people to get what he wants. The story is action packed and well worth reading! Violet Dixon does a great job bringing the characters to life.

I tend to not go for shorter books, they typically feel rushed and not long enough to be worth the credit or money. I went ahead and got this one since it was apart of the series. I was very happily surprised nothing felt too rushed and the story was actually very engaging. The narrator is decent overall although as like in the other books in the series you can hear a smile in her voice in situations that doesn’t fit the mood in the scene. Overall I enjoyed the book pretty well.

Short but Worth It
