Hitman Don Drake owes a gambling debt to a demon. Forced to carry out one more assassination to clear his debt, Don unwittingly kills an innocent child and brings the Furies of Greek myth down upon himself.

Rescued by an almost fallen angel called Trixie, Don and his magical accomplice - the Burned Man, an imprisoned archdemon - are forced to deal with Lucifer himself whilst battling a powerful evil magician.

Now Don must foil Lucifer’s plan to complete Trixie's fall and save her soul whilst preventing the Burned Man from breaking free from captivity and wreaking havoc on the entire world.

Most enjoyable. I finished it in one day. Don Drake is a likeable protagonist. He has his flaws but a conscience to do the right thing. He battles with evil to save a fallen angel. A very exciting and action paced storyline. I am glad I came across this series and will definitely continue this series. Peter McLean is a very talented writer and I love the performance/narration byMark Meadows. Well worth a credit.

EXCELLENT SERIES. ONE OF THE BEST IN THIS GENRE

While still falling under the umbrella of "urban fantasy" this novel has succeeded where so many others of late have failed. First, there are several very compelling and non-formulaic characters. As many have noted, the protagonist is "morally ambiguous" however his character development in just this first novel is far greater than that of many other series, where things are doggedly the same book after book. While the next book is not out yet, I think McLean has taken the high road and refused to adhere to a pulpish formula just for sales. I am keenly interested in what he does next. After finishing this book, I don't think I will be disappointed.

And the narrator is top notch. I will start looking for other books he has narrated.

Excellent story with character development!

I came upon this book by chance in my search for something other than the typical fantasy book. As the book is being read I imagined the whole thing in a film noir style much like sin city. It's dark, has sorcery, demons, fallen angels, and even Lucifer in a man's journey to get out from under a gambling debt with an arch demon. I can't wait till the next one.

A breath of fresh air.

This book was like the Dresden Files meets Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Now all we need is Guy Ritchie to turn it into a film.

loved it
