Leo wanted to make something out of himself—and build dams.

However, the world doesn't want dams. And it mostly doesn't want civil engineers. It doesn't want men who do any sort of building or fighting or grand design, it seems.

So, when Leo finds his current girlfriend and boss being threatened by a brutal loan shark and all three of them get dragged through a portal to another world, it doesn't take long for him to decide this is the place for him. Plus, everyone has magic, and who wouldn't want that?

Leo appears in the realm of a fallen kingdom, one that desperately needs someone who will both fight for what's right and build a grand civilization.

Along with his new coterie of friends—a not-quite-a-princess elf and a crippled dragon—Leo must race to build his kingdom before the loan shark Kruegar can finish Leo off with a legion of orcs.

[A litRPG adventure with kingdom-building, base-building, some slice of life, and a whole lot of quipping. Also, an in-depth magic system, leveling options, and an empire chart system. Check out the audiobook that has received over half a million views on RoyalRoad!]

I like the direction the story is heading in and how the Leo helps people grow. My only concern was that this might have been a harem story but the sensibility of the people and the importance on feelings makes me think that the author would not go in that direction.

Loved it.

There's a lot to talk about with this story.

Neutral: The voice acting is neither good nor bad.

Good: It has a lot going for it. The main character has things they aren't good at and works to improve. The party dynamic is interesting. the empire building makes sense and this would be the guy I would Isekai if I were rebuilding a falling kingdom. If just thinking about story, action, setting, and character then this story is a notch above most fantasy and WAY above most LitRPG.

Bad: Whenever the character levels you hear each stat and each skill along with the description of each stat and skill. you then have a listing of the entire catalog of available skills to upgrade. Most lit RPGs do this a little, but this is more excessive than most. I don't want to hear ten levels worth of this over 17 hours. Just make the story 12 hours long.

mostly good, but too many stats

Ilk to The Hobbit with lots of humor and flavor.

After reading a few reviews I put this treasure on my wait list. Some people just don't know what a great book really feels like these days. This author's planning and character creation is top tier. Each character has a uniquely solid build from strength to flaw. e.g. MC is an engineer but has a SIMP complex for women; the dragon is a power house tank with a self-esteem problem ect ect

Go with my gut, enough with these negative Nancys comments.

Glad I didn't listen to the naysayers

I loved the pace of the story and live for the quips. minus one star because I think it's unrealistic for the average person to be level one when the MC is burning through levels. It just feels like the author decided to create a world and nobody existed until the MC came along and suddenly now people can level. Zir's dad (RIP) was an assassin type but we're expected to believe he didn't gain enough XP to get beyond level 2?

I loved the pace

The book is pretty solid for the first book in the series. So we could do less pining over a woman that literally only had a couple lines at the beginning of the book and absolutely no other background on her. she basically ratted him out to the bad guys.
