I've stared into the face of Death, falling victim to her deceptively sweet lullaby. Until she released me from her icy grip without any warning, sending me stumbling back out the other side to continue on as if nothing happened.

When I come to in the hospital as their mysterious John Doe, I discover that the past year of my life never happened at all.

But I remember all of it. Every drop of blood shed, every life lost, every bullet fired.

I've been propelled back into a personal hell where I'm fraternizing with the very men whose souls I've coaxed from their bodies.

Where the woman I love has no idea who I am.

Where the driving force behind my revenge is alive and well, and has taken it upon herself to make sorting out my new reality increasingly difficult.

I'm reliving each day as if it hasn't already happened while everyone around me remains oblivious to the truth. My sole objective is preventing history from repeating itself, and I’m failing miserably.

Perhaps I'm death incarnate. Perhaps I'm the embodiment of life.

Either way, I plan to set the scales straight, reclaim my precious little lamb, and take back what's rightfully mine.

WHAT. IN. THE. PLOT. TWIST. 🤯

There are not enough words in the world to describe how I feel about this book...

HANDS DOWN: THE BEST. BOOK. OF. 2025. 🙌

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ infinite stars for the story by Jen Stevens
👏👏👏👏👏 standing ovation for the performances by Hannah Chiclana and Gregory Salinas🎙️

The cliff notes:
🫶my favorite duet, E.V.E.R.
✍️new author unlocked
🎙️first favorite female narrator discovered
🔀a story so unpredictable, it kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end

The extended version:
🫶Until now, my favorite duet was The Obsidian Order by Morgan Bridges (Vicious Society and Vicious Secret). But no longer! The Parallel Prey duet has all the elements: incredible writing, unpredictable storyline, talented narrators with incredible (and sexy 😏) voices,...
✍️This is my first book by Jen Stevens, but I wish I could travel back in time - because I have past FOMO. 😭
🎙️When I started listening to audiobooks in February'25, I quickly found my favorite male narrators: Gregory Salinas and Teddy Hamilton. But I have been struggling with finding a female narrator that I really loved. There are narrators that I liked, but there is always something that rubs me the wrong way (their breathiness, their accents when voicing non-MCs,...). Until now! Helloooooooooooooooooo, Hannah! I❤️U!
🔀OMG, this story... Throughout the first book, you think "great story"... But then you get to THE PLOT TWIST. #mindblown And the rollercoaster you get on, you don't get off until THE END OF THE 2ND BOOK.

What it is about:
I plead the fifth.
For maximum enjoyment: go in blind. 😎
Anything beyond the blurb (don't even go looking for the content warnings), might risk spoilers!

What you need to know:

I mean you need this book to know what happens… besides that, not a tone to recommend it. It seemed like an awesome idea but it just fell flat. Hardly any steam. Also there was that weird sudden character stupidity that I noticed in book 1. I mean how dense can this apparently brilliant CEO be?! ( also how could one guy fuck up and drop the ball that epically?!-you will understand if you get the book…cuz damn) There were also some weird abrupt spots. All of a sudden the story just moved on, next scene, never mind you just jumped forward from a seemingly extremely important event. The plot does get wrapped up and you do get a HEA( opinions may vary on that) but there’s no real satisfying answers to wtf happened to them. I wouldn’t buy it again, now that I know how it ends anyway… I’m left with a kind of “ what was the point of me listening to that?” And “damn what a waste of a potentially amazing totally original plot idea” feeling…
OH and there almost no sex! Very little build up / tension. I think there were maybe two sex scenes. Not kinky hot ones either. Desperate sad lovey scenes- nothing gettin you all hot and bothered. Dissatisfied 😤- now excuse me while I go find some good wholesome smut

Eh.. necessary more than entertaining
