Rafe

It started in high school. We grew apart. Bit by bit, then all at once. The friend who was my ride or die suddenly wanted nothing to do with me.

Now Cam's back from college, living in the house next door, and pulling stupid pranks just to annoy me. Between my intense family and my failing relationship, I'm struggling enough without his antics. But Cam won't go away. And I'm not so sure I want him to.

Cam

It started with a smile. A touch. A shared look of mischief. Rafael Ortega stole my heart before I realized it was mine to give away.

We were best friends from the time we were in diapers right up until the unthinkable happened: he started dating. I put distance between us to save myself, but now I'm back, willing to do anything for his attention again. Because the only thing worse than Rafe breaking my heart . . . is him not getting a chance to.

Contains mature themes.

Gay Man Review

I’ve been harsh and critical of this series for good reason. But, this book had many redeeming qualities. The first books in this series were a blatant and embarrassing appropriation of LGBT culture in order to earn some easy money from straight white women. This book dealt with a seldomly addressed topic in MM Gay romance, ACE sexuality. As a self identifying Gay ACE individual in a healthy marriage, I genuinely felt connected to the main characters in this book. The authors research was very good. The LGBT cliches and stereotypes that were predominant in the first 3 books took a backseat to an original LGBT romance. This book also educated and offered a very accurate portrayal of a character on the Ace spectrum . Too bad the first 3 books didn’t contain anything original or meaningful above and beyond stereotypical cliches.

This was a great story and very well done! This is the last book in the series and can be read as a standalone but if you have read other books in the series, you know that Rafe has been in a relationship with Laura though it has been rocky, we don't know why. I thought that the author did a phenomenal job with making that transition from him being in a relationship with Laura to breaking up with her and the experimenting and coming back to Cam. Cam and Rafe were best friends growing up, until Cam went to a different high school and they started to grow apart, neither really knowing how to handle that or wanting it to happen. Now Cam is back from college and across the street from Rafe and determined to rebuild that friendship. They both felt left behind by the other. Rafe has never been overly interested or enjoyed sex and doesn't really know why. As he starts to get to know Cam again, he starts to figure out that there isn't something wrong with him, he is just ace (asexual) and as he continues to learn, demi. I loved how Cam was with Rafe and helping him feel comfortable enough to start asking those questions and find the answers. He had enough confidence and comfortability in it that it allowed Rafe to explore the topic. I loved the support and how it allowed them to move from friendship to more and for Rafe to figure out what worked for him and what didn't on his ace spectrum and finding a relationship that would work. This story was very well done and engaging in that respect. It was easy to read and I loved getting to see fences be mended and previous characters as well. Loved this and sad to be leaving this small town.
The narrators did a great job with the story and characters and bringing them to life.
