I liked this book. Interesting take on witchcraft and how curses became what they are. The romance wasn’t a super strong part of the story. More they saw each other and wanted each. Other then that it was more about the witchcraft part of the story. One spicy scene.

Katie is an infuriating Mary Sue whose only use is a Damsel in Distress.

Katie is an obvious self-insert. She thinks she entitled to everything despite making everything worse at every turn. Yet it's ok cause... reasons. She is constantly making Natalie put herself in danger and fights cause Katie can't handle the situation but she insists that she deserves to be apart of them. She is constantly breaking her promises to Natalie and her oaths because she finds keeping her word is inconvenient. But everyone is fine with that cause... reasons. She is such a useless character who is constantly in danger and needs to be saved. which only is more annoying because these Trained shadows and guardians are constantly making the dumbest decisions in situations and feel like they just found out about their jobs 10 minutes ago. I was so over the inner thoughts of Katie as it was only ever "I have a gift and Destiny wants my to use them", "Natalie is too overprotective of me", "Why am I being left out of the secret club stuff.".

The presenter does their best but she wasn't given much to work with. And every time she had to call out "Natalie!" during an action or kidnapping scene I was immediately taken out of the story.
