"Sharp-witted, big-hearted, and authentic, Implied Consent is a knock-out of a novel from a writer who knows both the letter of the law and the messiness of real life."—Catriona McPherson, multi-award winning author of In Place of Fear.

Attorney Maureen Gould has a dark secret and a hunger for justice.

When a powerful movie producer attacks, and then fires, his young female assistant, Maureen sets out to make things right.

Enter defense counsel and Maureen's estranged father, Frank Gould, a man more evil than his client. Inside and outside of the courtroom, Frank pulls every dirty trick known and makes up a few of his own.

To win justice for her client Maureen must defeat her father and free herself from her past.

Secrets trap the shamed with the guilty. Truth will set them free.

I listened to this audiobook throughout four days. It really started difficultly with the characters having a lot of background that I didn’t know. I looked up the author in Google, to see if there was a prequel I could read first. Of course there was no evidence of a prequel. I powered through the first three or so chapters in hopes of getting to a point where the story would take hold. The story definitely began to pull me in.
The story was very good and it took me no time to be engulfed by the legal challenges of the story. There are a couple of secondary plot lines that really didn’t work. Mainly regarding the mother’s connection.
Once the now engaging story begins to get really interesting, I noticed that the story has very little time left. I then assumed that the author had created a hook to keep the reader engaged into the story and on to a second book. I was very surprised to find that this was not the case. The story suddenly became to speed the reader forward to the end. This was uncomfortable to read and it seemed like it was not accidental. The story quickly came to an abrupt end. The last few chapters were hurriedly written. The ending was so easy to predict and came with no real surprises by the end.
Overall, the book is still very exciting and brings a lot of legal challenges for the characters. Again the book starts off slowly. I recommend that the reader take this in during the first few chapters. The story will be quickly reaching the center of the story line and will hold you in. The end is quickly approaching and will be an interesting ending.

This was my first time listening to this author and I was pleasantly surprised. I would definitely be listening to the next book in the series.

Great Book

Choppy narration caused this listen to be tedious. Very robotic and even when sped up was rough.
Story line had many holes and a lack of feeling. When significant events happen (murder, theft, bombing) the characters seem unfazed and just continue on. I did not feel a connection with any of them. The base story of sexual harassment was handled well enough. Still not understanding the main character’s divorce of her husband who still was around all the time and was always supportive when it was not deserved!

Too many story faults!

This book was so much more than I expected. So detailed. So real. Felt every frustration these characters endured. Such a well-written book.

Unexpected!

We picked this book because we enjoy legal thrillers (usually less gore, but plenty of suspense). We had used our credits, so we were looking for a free audiobook to tide us over. We found this and decided to give it a try. The story quickly grabbed our interest, and it was full of unexpected twists and turns, with enough layers to keep it from getting boring. We really enjoyed it, and plan on using future credits to listen to others in the series. It was an entertaining story and we definitely recommend it!
