The all-knowing semelees swirled around me in the Veiled Between, crooning and writhing. “You’ve come to us, Daughter of Darkness, Princess of Shadows. Tell us what you seek.”

On the Silten continent, I’m the only fae who can walk the Veiled Between. My rare power is immense and dangerous, so the authorities have entrusted me to my guardian who controls my potent magic with an enchanted device.

To avoid the device’s searing punishment, I submit to a dutiful life. Until one terrifying night everything changes.

I’m taken captive by the ruthless Dark Raider—an outlaw wanted in all four kingdoms, who hides behind a mask, and has a body created for sin.

But the Raider whispers a promise I can’t resist—use my magic to find who he seeks, and he’ll obliterate my chains.

Finally, the freedom I’ve craved is within my reach.

Yet finding who he hunts plunges me into a game of deceit among the kingdoms. After uncovering truths I was never meant to know, I’m caught in a web of betrayal, and if I can’t find a way to break free, I’ll have simply traded one imprisonment for another.

Great idea but the main character is so weak and down right pathetic. It’s annoying

Kingdom of Faewood — 3 stars (generously).
The plot lacked depth and struggled to hold my interest. I didn’t connect with any of the characters, and the FMC in particular felt overly naive and difficult to relate to, making her characterization at 28 years old feel unrealistic. The book was hard to finish, and I nearly DNF’d it several times. Ultimately, it didn’t engage me enough to continue the series.

Krista Street always delivers a good story! This was a great start to the series. The FMC has a bit of Stockholm syndrome, but I can tell she is going to overcome the obstacles she’s dealing with.

This is such an interesting world the author created. I really enjoyed it, and I loved that I didn’t feel lost at all. You can totally read this one as a standalone. It’s definitely a dark read, so make sure to check the CW. There's a captor/captive dynamic and a little bit of Stockholm syndrome for the FMC, but stay with it. She's also naive at first, but it makes sense given how she was raised and what she was exposed to. As the story moves forward, she starts to learn more and really begins to blossom. I actually loved the Dark Raider. I got major Robin Hood vibes from Dark Raider. The narrator, Kasi Hollowell is brilliant with her narration and I was addicted till the very end. Kasi used a variety of tones and inflections for all of the characters. Love her narration skills.
I'm curious to learn more about the magic abilities in this world, and I can't wait to see where the story goes next.

Love this world!

Kasi Hollowell is very talented. I found her male voices to be well done which is hard to do without it being cringey. Overall, I fairly annoyed with the “stars and galaxy” curse used a lot in the book and the fmc’s incessant questions while the mmc answered vaguely. It was overdone. I feel like I needed more but it will likely come in books 2 and 3. I am undecided if I will continue.

Talented FMC
