Plagued by fear. Haunted by the sins of her past.

Approaching twenty-five, Katrin Drakos should only be concerned with two things—being crowned Queen of Alentus and marrying her Fated, Kohl.

For five years, she focused on falling in love, on living, on becoming whole again. For five years, she was able to forget what the vile King Nikolaos of Nexos had done to her. For five years, her nightmares did not return.

But then the whispers started. A rumbling of rebellion poised to strike. The King of Nexos had never attacked before. Until now. Until right before the Acknowledgement.

So when a notorious pirate captures her, claiming to have saved her from the lies the leaders have woven into history, Katrin must decide if the enemy from her past has really been her ally this whole time. Decide before the world around her crumbles and not only her power, but the power of all the gods, is lost forever.

Because sometimes, the Fates have other plans.

This was so close to being great, love the core of the story and themes.. but there were major plot holes, it was sometimes confusing, and the chemistry and banter were lacking for me. I found Katrin increasingly annoying by the end of the story I was like girl… I stayed for Ember and Ajax - so much potential in their story I might continue the series just for their plot. The male narrator almost sounds like AI - weird cadence that took you out of the storytelling

interesting mix of pirates, magic, and a twist on Greek gods. There were too many holes in the story and not enough character development. Why was the male narrator wasted on the bad guy?

A mix of pirates and magic

This felt like a great combination of Greek mythology, GoT, and pirates! I felt engaged in the story since the beginning. Only thing I would change would be a duet narration.

Great story line!

I liked the combination of lore that was apart of this book. It was as original and exciting. The female narrator is great and all this books needs. The male narrator uses a different accent for Ander which is annoying they didn’t work on that. I went through this book fast and I’m excited for book two.

Good story

While I loved the story and was sucked in almost immediately the guy who did Khols voice sounded like AI and even read lines wrong "sweat beaded off her Bro" instead of brow. Anytime it was his turn to read it killed it for me.

Also not a fan of HUGE cliffhangers, small ones that urge you to read more are fine but be warned its a doozy, think GoT cliffhangers.

All and all, I'll definitely give the next book a try but if its got another AI named narrator in there, our time will end there. Its like lying to your listeners trying to pass AI high end or not, off as human. We can tell.

Can't wait to read nore.
