When Aurelie Harcourt's father dies in debtor's prison, he leaves her just two things: his wealthy family, whom she has never met, and his famous pen name, Nathaniel Droll. Her new family greets her with apathy and even resentment. Only the quiet houseguest, Silas Rotherham, welcomes her company.

When Aurelie decides to complete her father's unfinished serial novel, writing the family into the story as unflattering characters, she must keep her identity as Nathaniel Droll hidden while searching for the truth about her mother's disappearance - and perhaps even her father's death.

Author Joanna Davidson Politano's stunning debut set in Victorian England will delight listeners with its highly original plot, lush setting, vibrant characters, and reluctant romance.

I almost never take the time to write a review, however, as a Christian I am glad to finally read a book that has a great storyline encompassing mystery, intrigue and romance without vulgar language or descriptive sexual behavior. Also most importantly, rightly state scripture from the Bible. I look forward to more of this author’s work.

Excellent on all levels

Clean and fun romantic drama. Thankfully no sex scenes. Just an interesting storyline and one of my favorite narrators!

I truly enjoyed listening to this book! It made me aware of the debtors jail, which I had no idea something like that existed! She was a remarkable woman to have lived her life there with her father and still have such a beautiful soul!! Love this story!!!!

good story line--not trite. suspenceful without being scary. made me thankful that the author reveres God and trusts him and His promises of love, protection, guidance, and purpose for our lives. gave me strength and joy. love how the character's storytelling was so spontaneous. author's excellent vocabulary paints beautiful word pictures.

Protagonist Aura Rose seeks to solve the mystery of her mother’s disappearance soon after her birth. Many familiar tropes of Romantic novels: orphan of uncertain parentage, dysfunctional wealthy manor house family hiding many secrets, forbidden love across class lines, naive young lady who runs off with a rogue. Inventive plot twists.
But so many plot holes! For example, when Aura shows up on the doorstep of her “cousins”, she is taken in.. but nobody in this family-lines obsessed social group evidences the slightest curiosity about her past! Where did she come from? How is she related to them?
It seems like the author was too lazy to create more believable social interactions.
The performance is excellent.

Inventive Faux-Victorian Mystery
