The meticulous detective Hercule Poirot suspects the worst of the death of a dentist in this classic mystery by Queen of Whodunits, Agatha Christie.

Even the great detective Hercule Poirot harbored a deep and abiding fear of the dentist, so it was with some trepidation that he arrived at the celebrated Dr. Morley’s surgery for a dental examination. But what neither of them knew was that only hours later Poirot would be back to examine the dentist, found dead in his own surgery.

Loved the rhyme theme!

Extensive yet cohesive plot involving multiple murders. Excellent narration. Written during WW II, in about 1940, but the war itself is not a major plot point, except that it helps to make the big banker, Alistair Blunt, even more vital to national economic security. I liked Poirot’s statement at the end, about the supposedly “not important” common man. Each chapter begins with a phrase from the nursery rhyme, One Two Buckle My Shoe, and Christie manges to tie that phrase into the chapter fairly well, some of the time.

If you could sum up One, Two, Buckle My Shoe in three words, what would they be?

Unexpected plot twists

What other book might you compare One, Two, Buckle My Shoe to and why?

Any other Christie work

What about Hugh Fraser’s performance did you like?

I have enjoyed listening to Hugh Fraser's performances of Christie's works. I have listened to several, and he does such a great job as narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I was okay with drawing it over several sittings. It got a little slow in places, and the ending seemed a little improbable.

Another classic Christie

Mrs. Christie has done it again. Ingenious puzzle, the intriguing H.. Poirot, the technique of being frozen in a sliver of time. And, world class narration.

YES

Eventually, the reader begins to see something of a deterioration in Agatha Christie's writing. I have found it so in almost any author's writing. This story is well constucted. However, her Middle East mysteries are almost too challenging... Just thought I'd throw that in.
