When the League moves on a golden planet deep inside Republican territory, war breaks out. Competing forms of galactic government fight to the death. AIs strategize, teleporting star fleets and space-based weapons systems across vast distances in an epic interstellar conflict.

Outgunned and desperate for more ships, the Republic turns to privateers, recruiting law-skirting companies from the fabled planet of Lute and offering huge rewards for their service.

One man, Captain Christopher Raleigh, flies the Ultima Mule with a crew of brilliant misfits. Together, they set out to teach the League a lesson or two, and collect multiple bounties along the way . . .

The AI reader was not great. The incorrect pronunciation of names and words became annoying at times.

Fun and interesting adventure with characters I actually cared about. I would love to know what the author's obsession with height in general and how old women look or don't look is about. Why do I need to know their height in inches and centimeters? The virtual voice was really bad on this one. A main character was called RACkle instead of Raquel for the entire book.

the story was pretty good. The characters were fairly well developed but it was hard getting attached to them because the A.I. does not match it's infections or emphasis to match the actual emotion or action going on. and it's comprehension if context is horrible. for example, thinking that "light pole" meant a pole that wasn't heavy not a pole with a light on it.
Or when the character is discreetly compared to cargo or loot replies "like me". the A.I. reads it as a cheery reply instead of the grudgingly depressed reply that was intended.
and pronunciations were awful. desert like sand for dessert food.
the A.I. voices is bearable but continually having to try to translate the mood of the conversation or the pronunciation of a word, which is obvious to a person but not to an A.I., continually pulls you out of the immersion and ruins the enjoyment. almost making listening a chore instead of fun.
I'll never actually buy a virtual voice book. it's just not there yet. I really hate that they're making almost all the plus catalog virtual voice.
they've turned one if the membership perks into garbage. I actually may cancel my sub because of it.

AI voice almost ruins the whole experience

The AI narrator mispronounced words, even names he said repeatedly he pronounced differently multiple times. It’s clear that nobody listened to them and made corrections. AI also had some cadence and flow issues with modulation of voice and out of place or lack of correct inflection and emotion. The story was great but could have been narrated much better. I’m really surprised they published with those errors.

Entertaining story w good characters

Easy listening for long trips and unique character development. Plot not to predictable but not very demanding.

Inconsistent pronunciation of words by the program. The lack of inflection by program reduces impact of dialogue
