Miss Miranda Bartley is in love with the Honorable Ethan Roderick, their engagement all but official. But as she basks in the success of her London Season, her joy is cut short when Ethan ends their courtship, claiming she is too insensitive. In the wake of her heartbreak, Miranda is dealt yet another blow, one that changes everything. In a harsh twist of fate, she quickly falls from society darling to servant in her uncle’s home.

Believing he will never see Miranda again, Ethan is shocked when he encounters her by accident. Even more surprising is her dramatic change; she is no longer the self-centered young woman he left behind. Her eyes are now open to the plight of poverty surrounding her, and Miranda has become every bit the lady Ethan once imagined her to be. As he helps the woman he once loved, their tattered relationship returns to familiarity. But Ethan is determined to protect his heart and begins a courtship with his neighbor, who is predictable and safe - everything Miranda is not. Forced to perform a delicate dance, Miranda and Ethan must choose - follow the rules of society or the longing of their hearts.

At first I enjoyed the story then it went downhill. It became obvious that everything that happened was blamed on the heroine. I found her strong, positive and opinionated when we first meet her but people wanted her to be demure, quite and submissive thus they did everything to act self righteous and call her spoiled. Especially the hero.

The hero ruined the story for me. He was wishy washy. He supposedly “loved” the heroine yet he was willing to throw her out not once but twice and lust over another woman. He was so self righteous, it was hard to find any redeeming quality. NOTHING good the heroine did mattered as soon as she did small thing he disagreed with. He never her gave her the benefit of doubt. I kept reading to see if the heroine would call him out and make him grovel but none of that happened, instead she was made to feel the villain and take the blame for everything. …only she had a character development.

Potential for a Nice, feel good story

Loved the story

I really love this author’s books! Although this one was a little disappointing, because of the fact that the hero had a chance to redeem himself and support his love the second time around. Making the mistake once is fine, making it twice is pretty crummy. I wish they would’ve had to face an obstacle together and in love at the end, instead of him rejecting her twice before he finally came around. It made me not as excited for her to get him in the end.

A near miss

This was my introduction to this author. I was truly captivated by this lovely novel. A so many points I would anticipate the next step in the story only to be pleasantly surprised at the twist. I was Rooting for the young lady. The redemption story touched my heart. I was engrossed from the first page until the last. The narrator did a fantastic job.
