Danger and passion collide when a plucky young woman becomes embroiled in a Bow Street investigation alongside a handsome officer.

London, 1803

As the daughter of a renowned actress, Verity Travers is a privileged lady of high society—and the last woman one would suspect of working as a private investigator. But after one case nearly costs her everything, she makes the hard decision to hang up her hat and live the uninspiring life of a gentlewoman. However, when she and her dearest friend become victims of a harrowing armed robbery, Verity finds herself swept back into the clandestine world of mystery and crime as she seeks to bring the thief to justice. There’s just one complication: the persistent and dashingly handsome Bow Street Runner Nathaniel Denning, who always seems to cross her path.

Verity is confident she could accomplish her work quickly if only Nathaniel would stay out of her way. While she appreciates his keen mind and quick wit on a case, his interference is muddling her progress—and her heart. Focusing on the task at hand becomes more and more difficult as she constantly bumps into Nathaniel, who is determined to keep her out of danger.

When the two rival investigators learn they are both pursuing the same cunning criminal, they must figure out how to navigate the delicate dance of cooperation amid a backdrop of increasing peril and an irresistible passion that sets their hearts ablaze.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to So True a Love by Joanna Barker. This Regency audiobook blends mystery, danger, and romance in such an entertaining way.

Verity Travers may be the daughter of a celebrated actress and a lady of society, but she also has a secret past as a private investigator. After a case nearly ruins her reputation, she resolves to live a quieter life. But when she and her closest friend are victims of a frightening robbery, Verity can’t ignore the pull of solving the crime and bringing the culprit to justice.

The only problem? Bow Street Runner Nathaniel Denning. He’s intelligent, persistent, frustratingly handsome—and constantly getting in Verity’s way.

I loved the dynamic between these two. Verity is clever, capable, and determined, while Nathaniel is protective, sharp-witted, and impossible not to swoon over. Their rival investigators-to-romance tension makes for such fun banter, and watching them slowly learn to trust one another while chasing the same criminal kept me hooked.

The audiobook narration added so much life to the story, capturing both the suspense of the investigation and the spark between Verity and Nathaniel. If you enjoy Regency romance with a touch of mystery, strong heroines, and a charming Bow Street officer, this one is a delightful listen.

I loved the characters especially ende Denning and Verity. They had quirks, humor intelligence. The writer was highly descriptive engaging all the senses as she moved the story along.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this series. I hope there will be more. They are such sweet, well-written love stories, and there are strands connecting one book to another. I did have to chuckle a bit at this one, as one character spoke to another about "catching feelings" lol...it was a bit silly to have such a modern euphemism in what is supposed to be a regency romance, but the rest of the book is so well-written, I will forgive and forget.

This author + this narrator = perfection!!
