I was the Rift Magus—master of space and time, protector of worlds. For decades, I defended my realm with unmatched power. But when I was reborn in the body of Lucian, a young noble in a different world, I had to start again.

My strength was diminished but my knowledge remained, and I quickly reclaimed fragments of my lost powers--and even found some that were new.

But this new life came with intrigues and rivalries of noble Houses, and obligations as well—one of which threatens to escalate out of control and put my progression at risk.

If I was the young noble I seemed to be, I would be out of my depth.

But I am not Lucian. I am the Rift Magus, and I've dealt with my share of both family obligations and unspeakable horrors, growing stronger all the while.

I can do it again.

I will do it again.

There's nothing in this world that can stop me.

Story and pace is good. A lot of people say its slow, but they're just impatient. The narration is the tricky part. Christian is great but Amber is god awful. I'm sorry, but it's true. She not normally this bad, so I don't know what's up with her lines. They ruin nearly any scene she's in.

10/10 and 5/10 narration

The first book was definitely better in my opinion this one definitely had a few more cons then the first book....in the first book I had almost little that I disliked but this one was not as good My points below

I didn't like The fact that this book immediately takes us away from everything we built in the first All the way to a pretty much no name settlement town where might I say nothing serious happens for the majority of the book it just feels like a waste

also the fact that the story is a slow burn with a relatively small story is a little upsetting I don't want to spend 5 hours getting to know a town that is only going to be mentioned in a single part of the series just for that to be the majority of the time that we spend listening to it or reading it

I thought the story as far as the fights went really well all the way up until almost the end about one of the last fights where the main character attempts to rescue the Baron's son I mean he's sitting there attacking nine heavily powered guys and one of them extremely powerful All while he's invisible throwing his rift abilities around the room some of them getting deflected by the powerful enemy All at the same time teleporting himself from areas in the room but I'm really confused here because he doesn't need to be throwing any portals around because he can literally just conjure them in people's heads or in their bodies as shown multiple times feels like a really lame way of allowing the villain to escape just to set up future books or the idea that the main character had to escape before he took out the big bad because they were going to shoot him and he said he didn't have enough time when we've also seen him conjure portals in front of himself in the blink of an eye to save himself from gunfire just by directing the gunfire somewhere else like with the last fight in the last book at the end of the book again it's like all of his experience got written out just so you can have a setup villain for a future book who's going to know about his powers....

also I really don't like how we start to see elements from the main character appear in the story like with the big bads ability to create portals like the main character uses by using runes and other things like that or how he used the main character battle steps in combat which shows that he has a fighting style that's not supposed to exist in this world.... I don't like when stories tend to do that if you're going to pull somebody from a different world as the main character for your series Don't steel what makes The main character special just for the sake of the story

overall I thought the atmosphere of the book was still pretty good I do like the conversations that we see take place some people might find that bothersome but I actually find it quite nice I enjoy slice of life especially when it comes to The main characters interactions with people many stories tend to overlook this fact by instantly skipping the conversation entirely from chapter to chapter it's always frustrated me.....for me to see full-fledged conversation it is quite nice including explanation from person to person Even if it seems repetitive it's nice to see the different interactions

I also like the recap at the beginning of the book every series should do that especially when you have 8 months separating books from each other somebody else mentioned this but it's definitely one of the reasons it gets a higher rating in my opinion

I also like the explanations for a reasons that the story gives for certain things like a good example how the main character gets sent away to this no name backwater town for what amounts to be a really dumb reason at first but the story gives really concrete and really good reasoning for it or why certain decisions were made in the story by the main character or other people they actually give really really solid reasoning behind justifying something that might seem frustrating lots of stories don't do this they just tend to give some sort of flimsy garbage reasoning that doesn't stand a reason..... anyways that's my take

not as good as the first but still pretty good

I can’t wait to finish this story. This book has a great pace to it, and if there was anything I had to say negative, there’s not much besides him always referring to his old powers. Besides that I really enjoyed the book and the series so far.

Great book

Not the greatest narrator, especially the female voice . But overall good story. Try it, you will enjoy it.
