Emmy

My fall from grace was one for the books. All it took was his word against mine for everything to topple. Liar. Slut. Snitch.

Now, I wear my shame like a scarlet letter pinned to my chest. People say I ruined his life. Except he’s the one who irrevocably broke me - my heart, my body, my soul...my will to live.

Sterling

Like a little coward, she thinks the span of five states is enough to keep her safe. But I know where she is, and I’m going to make her pay. She ruined my best friend’s life. Now...I’m going to ruin her. One by one, I’ll spill her secrets, until she has nowhere left to turn - except to me, her very own big bad wolf.

This was a good college bully book, one with heartbreaking content. I was glad that the H came to see the error of his ways as early as he did, and tried to make up for it, because the re-victimization of the h, it was horrible to go through with her. On that point, I wish that more would have been done as far as atonement goes, with both the H, and all of her family, I felt like it was just kind of mentioned in passing, so we didn't actually get to see justice done as it should have been. I enjoyed the side characters and can't wait to get to their stories as well. The audiobook was also very well done.

Heartbreaking

Emmy and Sterling were so good for each other. When I first read this book I wasn't sure I'd like it. Boy was I wrong!! My heart broke for Emmy and all her pain and I hated Sterling a bit at the start. He redeemed himself quickly though and lives with his whole heart. He's my favorite LK hero by far. This narration was spot on for their characters.

Please do not read reviews, or do so with care, since most of them are lost in the real story of this book. Sterling (MMC) goes on a mission as an “unwilling soldier” to torment Emely (FMC). He is an exemplary student, serving as a teaching assistant, and his bullying behavior is not as severe or frequent as in books with a similar theme. It happens only at the beginning, in a few meetings, and stops around chapters 10-13 after an angry kiss between them. After this event, their love begins to develop for about 80% of this book allowing each to fight their own demons and understand each other. Their love progresses beautifully without interruption until the chapter where the event in the epilogue happens (around chapter 38) causing a breakdown in the relationship. From this point, they move toward the happy ending, not rushed but developed toward the end. Many readers’ review are too harsh on Sterling, even though he is a sweet Prince Charming throughout most of the book, including all the support he provides. I can assume many readers skimmed through the story and wrote false reviews. Therefore, as I was influenced by misleading reviews, including spoilers, I felt confused and conflicted about Sterling's behavior at the beginning. However, as the story progressed and his inner thoughts were revealed, I could understand him better. The audiobook is Dual, a Duet could have been much better. Highly recommended.
