Violet: Nothing wrecks an already bad day faster than almost getting hit by a car. But then he rescued me. My mysterious, sexy savior wore danger as easily as he wore his black-on-black clothes. And still, I wasn't afraid of him.

I should've been.

Because after one misunderstanding, the man I thought would love me forever showed me just how ruthless and cold he really is. I trusted him with my heart once and it broke me. I can't afford to make that mistake again . . .

Hoka: She was my ikigai—my life purpose. Loving her was inevitable.

But I'm king of the Japanese mafia. Softness like hers doesn't exist in my world. Maybe that's why it was so easy for me to believe she betrayed me. Why I burned us to the ground.

Now that I know the truth, I'll do anything to get her back. I know a good man would let her go. But I'm not a good man . . .

Contains mature themes.

Really like this book! I love the romance between the two! I even cried! But overall this was a great book and can’t wait to read the rest in the series.

Really nice story

Must read! Please, do not read spoilers criticizing some of the events in this story, because you won't read this one. The plot is a masterpiece of love, groveling, and second chances. The pacing will have your heart shattered and then fixed again, not rushed but beautifully developed. Each character has a story to tell and acts accordingly. Hoka's actions are understandable given who he is, a mafia figure. However, his path toward redemption is masterfully crafted, avoiding the rushed ending that many authors resort to, turning rapist abusers into Prince Charming without meaningful redemption development.
The narration is dual, not my favorite. A duet narration would have added the perfect touch to this story.

Heart-wrenching Story- Missing Duet Narration

I couldn’t stop listening to this awesome book! I typically am more of a darker romance fan but, this one (while not very dark) still had a nice variety of love, heartbreak, betrayal, spice, redemption, and mafia world. The narrators were both new to me but I enjoyed both their performances!

This story had it all!

Gosh, this had heart and was so hard to read at some points. These characters and the plot twists are worth investing in. They are all so incredibly flawed but believable and relatable in their own ways. The narration is lovely. Though I wish it were a duet audio, having each narrator switch-off was still ok. I also enjoyed the pronunciation, accents, and Japanese sentiments, mythologies, and colloquialisms.
Amazing story that shows just how deep generational trauma can run, and how running away from our parent’s mistakes will only get us so far—most likely, it will turn our lives full circle until we either break generational curses or fall victim to them ourselves.

****
Violet, our MFC, had such a gorgeous character arc. I’m so happy she rose from the ashes multiple times. Her suicide contemplation was so real, and Hoka’s mother’s timely wisdom carried necessary weight. The parishes parents and their imagined words to their children rhymes in a poetic, powerful way that juxtaposed both main characters. The best friend meant so well and yet was so misguided, it made me ache for him even through bitter resentment, which is how I imagined Hoka felt. This was beautiful.

Beautifully written

I got volume 1 at free audiobooks with my membership. How a surprise! I enjoyed this book so much that I ended up listening the series “Syndicates” by R.G. Angel. These are the kind of audiobooks that are hidden gems. From the plot, characters, and to the narrators. These are my first audiobooks narrated by Summer Robert’s and Brian Nishii, their performances were stellar!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The narrators brought the characters to live and the story very real. It is not the regular mafia drama, I love it each audiobook. Unfortunately, they stopped on Volume 3, there are more books out there. I am now interested on R. G Angel’s work. Check out “Her Ruthless Warrior!” Happy listening! You will not regret!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ SO GOOD! EPIC! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
