Jane Ashcroft walks dogs under a false name, trying to stay quiet, unnoticed, untouchable.

She's gotten good at knowing when to leave.

In Old Saybrook, Connecticut, the Loomis family offers everything she needs: steady work, an incredible dog, and the anonymity of hired help. But wealth like theirs always hides something. And Jane has a habit of looking too closely.

At first, it's just unease—the way Mrs. Loomis watches her grandson. The locked rooms. The staff whose charm feels a little too rehearsed. Then comes the affair Jane doesn't see coming, and suddenly she's no longer invisible.

The deeper she's pulled into the Loomis household, the clearer it becomes: someone here isn't who they claim to be.

Jane knows the smart move is to walk away. She always does.

But this time, walking away might be the most dangerous choice of all.

For listeners who love layered suspense, flawed heroines, and psychological thrillers where danger builds slowly—then strikes hard.

Author's Note: While The Dog Walker: Secrets is the recommended starting point, each book in the series stands alone with new secrets, new dangers, and the same unforgettable heroine.

The Dog Walker Secrets is one of those special Audible finds that pulls you in and refuses to let go. Each of D.L. Maddox’s characters are well-conceived—authentic, flawed, and yet wholly believable. Two key strengths of this Audible book are award-winning narrator Linda Jones and the author’s excellent pacing—always enough tension to keep you listening, but never so rushed that important details are lost. This is the kind of audiobook that makes commutes shorter and chores more enjoyable.

If you enjoy character-driven stories with subtle twists and an undercurrent of mystery, this Audible title is absolutely worth your time. I finished it wanting more—and there is more. I’m on to “The Dog Waker Killer”, Book 2 in this 5-book series!

Intelligent, suspenseful, and rewarding!

This is the second book in this series that I've listened to by this author and narrator. The book is well-written and keeps you listening to learn more about what's happening in Jane the dog walker's life. The narrator does a great job bringing the characters to life.

Keeps you listening

I read the book and really enjoyed it, so I decided to listen to it as the way to do my second read. The narrator, Linda Jones, is one of the best I've heard. She can do men, women, accents, old, young, it doesn't matter. You never get confused about who is talking. The book is a slow-burn thriller. The tension grows and grows. Be patient, and you will be rewarded. This is a high-quality read (or listen!).

AUDIO EVEN BETTER !

The Dog Walker is a book of characters where pulpy twisted things happen not because they make sense or follow a plot but because the characters are broken. It's got some wild sensational turns that are fun but cheesy. The 'secret lives of rich folk' tone is a rich one I enjoyed; a subtle sort of bourgeois folk horror. I listened to this before the prequel and there are some references to the prequel but nothing too obviously dictating reading order (having since started the prequel I think it might be a little better to read that one first since it just starts cold with no references to other installments; both seem quite similar). I appreciated the 'coastal elite' vine here and some low key spy elements most. A turn at the end felt a little disappointing (somewhat random feeling despite being foreshadowed).

Wealthy But Twisted

I love this narrator. She brings to life stuff that would normally be very dull and drab. You would never think a dog walker would have problems but I’m telling you what this person finds a lot of stuff when they’re doing dog walking. Highly recommended if you like a psychological thriller. There’s not a lot of action, but it certainly is a deep story. Recommended for anyone who likes suspense, psychological thrillers with surprises along the way.

Strangely exciting!!
