Lady Louisa Darby blames herself for her mother’s death when the Darby sisters were still so young and has dedicated her life to ensuring her sisters’ happiness. So when she’s lured into a compromising situation that will endanger her youngest sister’s chance at a happy marriage, Louisa will do whatever is necessary to protect her family’s reputation and save her sister’s chance at the future she deserves.

Even if it means marrying the Beastly Duke.

Sebastian Fielding, the Duke of Waverly, has spent years cultivating his reputation as the Beastly Duke to ensure he’ll never make the mistake of falling in love and repeating his father’s fatal mistake. But when honor calls on him to marry Lady Louisa Darby, his best intentions may not be good enough.

For not even a beast can withstand the charms of the belle of the ball.

i really liked this book. I liked that it has the 'I don't want romantic love because my past trauma' trope, but that the MMC recognizes he most certainly CAN love he just wants to avoid it vs so many MMCs that think they are above love or that love doesn't exist.

Also has a martyr heroine, which I'm a sucker for.

Also, the narrator is perfectly fine. especially if you listened to the previous book before this one, and were already used to Sebastian's voice.

Narrator is perfectly fine

This story is good i just don’t love the voices that the narrator decided to use to use for them. Why be so old sounding? And his mother voice did not fit with the characters devious nature. But i still like the story itself

Hummm

This narrator has a pleasant voice while she is narrating the unspeaking parts of thus series, that is why I can't understand why she speaks the character's voices so awfully! The main character lady sounds like the would-be grandmother in the original movie " The Parent Trap" (with Hayley Mills) and the Duke, Sebastian, sounds like he's a constipated Dandy! All her voices for each character are awful! If I were this author I'd cringe every time I would listen to her narration! The story is good, and that's the only reason I kept listening to this! Jessie Clever seems like a talented author - but I think I will myself read the rest of the books in this series!

I hate this narrator, Bridget Thomas!

Not sure why the narrator wanted the main character to sound like an old man. It’s so distracting that all the characters sound so wonky. She doesn’t even get the inflections right but I can tell the author was trying to reflect it almost makes it not worth listening to the series.

Worst narrator

The story was pretty good but I almost didn’t finish it because of the narration. Female voices were .. meh. Male voices were absolutely horrible. Sorry I hate leaving unflattering reviews but those voices. bleck.

Good story but…….
