A desperate earl. A bluestocking heiress. A marriage of convenience gone awry.

Miss Amelia Hart may have a hefty dowry, but she seems to be invisible to eligible gentlemen. When the charming and handsome Earl of Longley begins courting her, she's baffled—until she realizes he's a fortune hunter.

Amelia proposes a mutually beneficial arrangement that could prove dangerous to her heart. They wed, he gets access to her dowry, and she has the freedom she's always dreamed of… as long as she doesn't fall for him.

Resisting the earl's gentle touches and kind words proves almost impossible, but Amelia knows she isn't the type of woman to entice a man like him. Loving her new husband can only end in heartbreak.

If you love the glamor of Bridgerton or the drama of Downton Abbey, then this steamy regency romance is your next must-listen book!

I liked the exchanges between the main characters and their falling in love although I wished for more honesty. The heroine's horrible mother, the hero's evil ex mistress and the snide women are too much and there are so many mistakes about the behavior in 1800s England that they are too many to count. From the heroine going out on her own, to thanking the servants, to saying twenty one instead of one and twenty, American expressions, etc,etc

It was nice to have the strong female wanting her career and taking lead.

The unrealistic responses to the former mistress was perplexing. Constantly pulling her aside to meet in private or to discuss things was so worthless that it undermined seeing the hero as a hero worthy of the heroine. And while it was wonderful to see a hero who loved & respected his mother in a loving relationship, it again undermined the hero's so-called love for the heroine when he consistently chose & preferred to discuss things with his mother instead of his wife. Ick. The heroine came across in reality as a doormat despite all of the "youre so strong" & "youre so independent (smart, etc)" platitudes. Any mistress behaving so vindictively & publicly would not be allowed to linger or publicly undermine an earl like that without severe censure or punishment. I think this author does not understand how mistresses & courtesans versus lovers or affairs differ. Socially, these were very delineated...and in this book, everything was completely unreasonable. And even near the end, having the Duke escort his former mistress out? WTF?! It would be footmen or a servant. The terrible dialogue & ignorance of social norms for this time period was annoying & detracted from the story.

Good-ish, BUT...
