Things only an idiot would do:
1. Develop an obsession for his best friend’s sister.
2. Agree to let her be his new roommate.
3. Kiss her.
Hello I’m Emerson Knight and I am an idiot.
I try to stay away from Gianna Damiano, I really do. But between crop tops and fiery glares I can’t get her off my mind. One fake date changes everything and I cannot deny I want my hands on every one of my new roommate's delicious curves. One night keeps turning into one more. And suddenly I’m lying to my best friend.
I’m the man known for his fake out, but I’m only kidding myself because the way she’s stealing my heart feels very real.
Author Note: The Fake Out is book two of the Boston Revs Three Outs Series. It is a stand-alone baseball romcom between a black cat female main character and golden retriever male main character. This roommates-to-lovers teammate's sister romance will guarantee you tons of fun banter and swoony moments between the goofy baseball star and the curvy girl who stole his heart. Add in some laughs with the Revs team and an adorable pet puffin and it is sure to be fun for all.

However, unlike most fake dating tropes, the MCs both know there is real feelings and have a conversation about why the forbidden romance isn't a good idea. I hate when both MCs like each other but still "pretend to date". In this book, they only pretend for the one event that their feelings are real for the brother/friend and pretend to date in front of the ex boyfriend. After that their relationship grows honestly between them. The reasons they don't want to actually cross beyond friendship and a fling is genuine and understandable, and has nothing to do with not wanting to admit their feelings. Yet they both care so much about each other and see each other beyond the facade they wear as armor against their insecurities. They see beneath the personality they each show the outside world and make a genuine connection. This story is sweet and heartwarming. They go out of the way to support each others dreams, emotionally support each other, and understand one another. It's hard to see 2 characters who feel so deeply about everyone get put in shallow boxes based on a few characteristics and for people to not really see or support them. This book made me frustrated at other characters that I loved in the other books in this universe while making me appreciate oh much they cared for each other and their loved ones.
This author does such a good job at building unique and layered characters, the book sucks you in to the story. Plus there is great voice acting with lots of unique character voices. I could easily listen to this book again.
Finally a fake date romance that actually makes sense

The way he calls her mariposa—swoon. It melts my heart. This book is perfection, not because the MCs are flawless, but because they’re real. They have doubts, insecurities, and imperfections, yet they are so incredible together and as individuals. Em and Gi’s relationship is filled with laughter, romance, and passion in every moment. And Emerson? His Puerto Rican roots, his cooking skills, his heart—even when he doesn’t think he deserves it—make him the best.
When they finally profess their love, it’s such a beautiful, emotional moment. All the emotions hit at once—it’s powerful, heartfelt, and unforgettable. This book has officially stolen my heart. Congratulations, Jenni, you did amazing!
If reading this book was amazing, listening to it was absolutely spectacular!
