Gryphons are a new and budding race in the world. They suffered their share of strife and oppression when they first appeared but over time humans have become more accepting, especially as the new sport of Gryphball became popular.

Thyra and Johnathen are the first interspecies married couple in America's southern states. They have had their own struggles fitting in, dealing with racist citizens and a religious cult that sees them as abominations that should be eradicated.

Can Johnathen and Thyra live freely in a world that seems set against them?

This book was very nicely written. A lot of small actions done by the characters feel real, as they are written in a manner than shows a first-hand experience in how actions feels and how the mind works. The author does an exceptional job of keeping the reader on their toes as they give out bits of the background and lore throughout the story, rather than dumping it all into one paragraph or a big block of text at the beginning. Rather than give us the history, they present the story in a manner that would be as if the story were familiar to us and lets us wonder "What did I forget?"

There are a few issues or complaints with the extremely rare instance of characters not behaving in a fully believable manner, but this, again, is not even close to being common. I can count the issues with the characters on one hand. Truely, this was a fantastic short and can't wait to read the next installment!

A Fantastic Book, with a Fantastic Plot

Philo-scifi is a term I have coined for media that is fantastical in nature, yet still is social commentary. Prevalent during the 60's, Bizzell's The Gryphon Generation is a sign that this niche genre has returned, and I couldn't be happier.
Johnathan and Thyra's relationship and the bigotry they face together has immediate parallels to civil and LGBTQ+ rights; yet it does all this through an entertaining world where gryphons have been made real. This thought provoking novel is a must for anyone looking to have a more thought provoking fantasy tale.
