The Ancients demand a sacrifice. And the time has come.

Every thirteen years, the town of Smithsville comes together for its most sacred religious ritual.

The Harvesting.

One woman from the town will be chosen. Sacrificed to appease The Ancients.

Michael, the son of the prophet, has spent his life upholding tradition. Guided by obedience to his father and the Gods, he is prepared to step into his role as the next prophet. But as The Harvesting approaches, Michael will question everything he believes in. This year, the woman he loves is one of the potential sacrifices.

Torn between love and loyalty, Michael must make a decision.

Will he carry out his duties?

Or will he confront his doubts for the one he loves?

This story is fast paced and noone is safe. Just like all of Timothy King's work, you get exactly what you expect and you enjoy the ride. A bit cult-y a bit cosmic, this story will grab your attention and never let go.

Mr. King is always an auto buy for me and he knocks it out of the park again.

This was such a great story in such a short time. The audiobook clocks in at a little over 3 hours. I listened at 1.7x speed, so it ended up being the length of a movie. It would honestly be an awesome movie.

The first half of the book was emotional, thought provoking, and had some coming of age elements that I loved. It didn't take long for me to feel invested in the characters. The second half matched the vibes of the cover. It was brutal and exciting. Both parts were done so well. I was hooked the entire time.

The audiobook was narrated by Derek Austin. He did a great job. He made the voices different enough that you could always tell who was speaking, and he set the tone of the story well.

I highly recommend this one. If you have a couple of hours, this is a great book to listen to or read in one shot.

I received a copy of the audiobook from Fright Night Audio in exchange for an honest review.
I was more than happy to give Timothy King’s The Harvesting a listen after reading his novel, Seven Rabbits. Derek Austin is the narrator, and as always, delivers a stellar job.
The Harvesting is a fast-paced book that will have you guessing until the very end. As I was reading, I felt this story could end in one of two ways…I was wrong, very wrong.

In the town of Smithsville, every thirteen years, one woman must be sacrificed for the Harvesting. This year, the responsibility falls onto Michael, the son of the prophet. Michael has always carried a deep love for Mary, one of the women who may be chosen for this year’s sacrifice. Michael has some important choices to make —what will it be? Love or family?

If you enjoy cults, strange religions, and major moral dilemmas, then pick up a copy of The Harvesting. I feel like The Harvesting has the right amount of blood and gore and is suspenseful right up to the end. Timothy King delivers a solid plot with believable characters. I would love to see this story continue into a sequel.
