Book Three of the award-winning tech noir series.

The world writhes as a remorseless terror sweeps across the planet. The age of immortals is drawing to a close and the vestige of humanity lies in tatters.

Jonas, the failed leader of the human resistance, is adrift in a world that rejected him.

Having witnessed the cold cruelty of annihilation, he spent hours in a state of debilitating shock. But now he must venture back to the ruins of civilization in search of hope.

This third book in the "Immortal Wake" series was entertaining, but also emotionally difficult as I kept aligning myself with the protagonist. After seeing the results of annihilation, Jonas faced his new reality. The story was thought-provoking. The character of Jonas was both strong and flawed. He exhibited a humanity that was very realistic. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Eric Burgher's narration was superb. His performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

I was very curious to see how the narrator was going to handle the tonal shift between the second book and this one (for obvious non-spoiler reasons). Any fan of the series knows that this would be a difficult transition to pull off and I am please to say that Eric Burgher did a fantastic job. His mastery of the saga up to this point has been a treat to experience, so hearing his full embodiment of a battered protagonist was very rewarding. (I think I actually applauded at the very end.) The Mortal Vestige is a heavy coda to a harrowing series and I thoroughly enjoyed the listen.

A performance worthy of applause
