The fighting season has been extended—with more blood matches than ever—in the sixth installment of this gripping fantasy series perfect for fans of Gladiator.

In the depths of a sweltering summer, amid the waves of heat shimmering off golden sand, the games of Sunja's Pit have assumed a new attitude. One of bitterness and betrayal. Of sweat and desperation. Corruption and cheating rule this season, and there's no end in sight. And outside the arena, battles between bitter rival houses could completely reshape everything.

Furious that her husband's killer has gone unpunished, Zelia of Balgotha is visiting each house to place a bounty on the head of the man who so callously ruined her life: Goll, of the House of Ten. Meanwhile, in the shadowy corners of Sunja, the brutish enforcer known as Gurga is on a ruthless, one-man death march against the underworld powers that rule the streets, seeking his own revenge against those who killed the woman he secretly adored. And the gladiator Prajus—recently of the School of Nexus—realizes his new owner is every bit as bloodthirsty as he is...and willing to take as many heads as needed to win it all.

From the sands, a dragon is rising, while upon the cobblestone streets of Sunja, through a maze of the darkest lanes and back alleys, an ogre is hunting. This is blood sport at its finest. At its worst. At its longest.

I tore through this one too fast. John Lee is sooo good at what he does, brining to life each unique character. The story felt like it should be twice as long, the story line too clipped but perhaps I was greedy. I anticipated the last fight but expected it would be a while before we got to it.

I believe this story is meant to set the stage for the upcoming finale, so it left me a little me a little satisfied. The story line progressed through some unexpected characters, and didn’t touch on the one I was most curious about. I’ll have to wait to the next one and I’m hoping for lots of surprises.

I had bugged Keith years ago, to give us more... He is my favorite author and this my favorite series. When the world & lives changed in 2020, I lost contact and I barely had any time for pleasures- like my beloved audiobooks. So moving forward 5 years...After another difficult week and down with the flu; I realized it was an opportunity to look at what was happening in Audible land. The moment I saw Blackmore finally gave me another 131 Days book, it was decided-I am back! Of course, my buddy always delivers and I loved it. I hope he reads this and remembers his biggest fan from pre-covid...
If you love fantasy, righteous revenge, incredible characters, intense arena-style single combat, and you are a little "unfit" compared to normal society... Well, lucky you and welcome to your new favorite series! Get book 1 and know you have good times ahead!
Thank you Keith and I hope you are well, sir!

Finally and Bravo!

I didn't care for no clear outcome for Pignot. Great character without a final outcome.
