An eighty-year-old man is found murdered in his home. His age and standing in the community makes finding his killer difficult–why would anyone harm an elderly man? What threat could he possibly be to anyone?

With no apparent motive, DS George Cross canvases the community for potential suspects but the man was known as generous, charitable, community-minded. Each interview about who the man is muddies the picture further. So Cross decides to look for who he was–revealing a past that is far less honourable than his present . . .

Perfect for fans of MW Craven, Peter James and Joy Ellis, The Teacher is part of the DS George Cross thriller series, which can be listened to in any order.

The voice actor was fabulous as always and it was a well written book, but the author’s lack of compassion dropped him down a notch in the human being department.

I appreciate that the author is too young to have been exposed to the kind of school boy abuse that is central to the plot of his story. My husband was exposed to a violent and abusive boarding school headmaster in Devon since the age of 6. Although my husband has lived a good life and has lived beyond his childhood abuse, he is not without emotional wounds directly related to having been a small boy at the mercy of a man in such a position of power. The author and most of the characters seemed amazed that “even after all this time”, anyone could still feel emotionally scarred by such a life experience. How oblivious the author is to think that a little boy victimized by an adult in a position of power wouldn't grow up and still be affected by those experiences in known and unknown ways. The author legitimizing that kind of ignorance and lack of compassion kind of pissed me off.

Author ignorant of effects of headmaster violence
