"The greatest measuring rod of love in the life of a Christian may be forgiveness, because God showed His love to us in terms of forgiveness." --John MacArthur

Does anyone really want to forgive? Or admit that we need forgiveness? Whether we're giving or receiving, forgiveness is hard. It seems unfair. It feels unnatural. And as best-selling author and pastor John MacArthur demonstrates, forgiveness apart from Christ is unnatural. It is only as we understand our need, Christ's power and example, and what it reallly means to love that we can embrace two of the most liberating acts of love: forgiving and being forgiven.

In The Truth About Forgiveness, you are taken through the Bible and encounter:

  • Studies of key Bible characters
  • Theological instruction
  • Practical application points and ideas
  • Inspiration to readily give and humbly receive forgiveness

Forgiveness is a fundamental means by which we live out our faith daily. Having experienced God’s forgiveness, Christians find joy in forgiving other people. This book will inspire you to develop a merciful spirit, and will warn you what can happen if you are unwilling to forgive others.

If you have depression, do not read this book. The author seems to view depression as a choice. He describes a depressed individual as one who takes masochistic delight in being a victim. He appears to present depression as a spiritual infirmity. The symptoms represent the status of an individual's relationship with God. It seems the author lacks an understanding of what it is to experience depression. I believe "understanding" is what this author should seek before categorizing individuals based on his judgments and his experiences as he explores the condition's perimeter. I couldn't make it past the first chapter.
