With modern media, there is an impression that this world is becoming more chaotic than ever before. However, according to Osho’s understanding, the world has not changed but remains the same: upside down, crazy, insane. The fact that in the last 3,000 years humanity has fought 5,000 wars is evidence enough but what has changed is an awareness that we are crazy, that something is basically wrong with humanity. And to Osho, this awareness of the madness changes everything. While the vast majority of humanity has been brainwashed by religious conditioning, a few bold and intelligent people have become aware that our whole past has been wrong and what is needed is a radical change. “We need a discontinuity from our past. We want to start afresh, we need to start afresh. Once we accept the truth as it is, humanity has a chance to become sane”.

Osho rightly points out that a great deal of the viewpoint that the world is insane arises from the constant bombardment of media being pumped into our minds and then goes one step further and says this is actually a good thing. The awareness of the insanity gives us all a chance at addressing the issue. The world has always been insane, religious wars have abounded, mankind has always considered the other to be less than self and he used many examples of these egocentric thought processes in this speech. He mentions we were born into an insane world sane and were pushed into all our different versions of egocentric insanity. Recognize the egocentric insanity and embrace sanity.

Osho speaks: the world has always been insane.
