Actor, director, screenwriter Billy Bob Thornton on this archive edition of Fresh Air. The 1996 film Sling Blade which he wrote, directed and starred in put him on the map and earned him an Academy Award for Best Adapted screenplay. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in the 1998 film A Simple Plan. Last year he directed the film All the Pretty Horses.

Khaled Abou El Fadl is the professor of Islamic law at the University of Southern California at Los Angeles. He's also the author of a number of books including, Conference of the Books: The Search for Beauty in Islam a collection of essays about the problems and challenges that confront Muslims in the contemporary world.

Veteran journalist Bob Woodward and British actor Jeremy Northam on this edition of Fresh Air. Bob Woodward is assistant managing editor of The Washington Post. He's the author of eight nonfiction best sellers including All the President's Men, and The Final Days, about the presidency and The Brethren about the Supreme Court.

Actress, writer, comedians Ellen Degeneres and Andy Richter on this edition of Fresh Air. Ellen Degeneres will soon begin a comedy tour. Her five-year sit-com Ellen won an Emmy for her much anticipated coming-out episode. She and her character came out at the same time. This was followed by a very public relationship with actress Anne Heche, which eventually ended.

A very controversial figure, Lee Kuan Yew formed the People's Action Party and won the first Singapore general election in 1959. Since it was granted independence in 1965, Singapore has gone from British colony to Asian economic powerhouse.

Children's book author Eoin Colfer and British comedy duo Sean Foley and Hamish McColl on this edition of Fresh Air. Eoin Colfer is the creator of the Artemis Fowl series, featuring a twelve-year-old millionaire criminal mastermind. Two of the three books in the series have been on the New York Times best seller list. The books are a combination of science fiction, fantasy, fairy tale, and thriller.

Son of televangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, Jay Bakker and remembering code breaker Leo Marks on this edition of Fresh Air. In 1989 Jay Bakker's father, Jimmy, was convicted of defrauding his followers at the Praise The Lord ministry, and sent to prison. Then his parents divorced. Bakker was 13 years old at the time.

Actress Cherry Jones and hip hop forefather Grand Master Flash on this edition of Fresh Air. Cherry Jones is currently appearing in Lysistrata at the Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia. Jones is a founding member of the American Repertory Theatre and has appeared in 23 A.R.T. productions. She's won Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League awards. Jones has starred or appeared in many Broadway and Off-Broadway productions.

Country and bluegrass musician Ricky Skaggs and Khmer Rouge survivor Arn Chorn-Pond on this edition of Fresh Air. Ricky Skaggs has a new album out called The Three Pickers, and it features Skaggs playing along with Earl Scruggs and Doc Watson.

The HBO hit series Sex and the City, begins a new season July 21st. On this edition of Fresh Air, we'll hear from two people involved with the show: actress Sarah Jessica Parker and writer and executive producer Michael Patrick King. Sarah Jessica Parker was just nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She's been acting for most of her life, including playing Annie on Broadway, the young bimbo in L.A. Story, and a fed-up fiancee in Honeymoon in Vegas.

Hear authors Stephen Walt and Abraham Foxman, and beer expert Michael Jackson, on this edition of Fresh Air. Stephen Walt is the co-author (along with John Mearsheimer) of the book The Israel Lobby. The book grew out of their controversial article, which was published in the London Review of Books in March 2006. The two examine the impact of the Israel lobby on U.S. foreign policy and argue that support for Israel cannot be fully explained on either strategic or moral grounds.

Author Jonathan Lethem and actress Maggie Gyllenhaal on this edition of Fresh Air. Jonathan Letham's new semi-autobiographical novel, The Fortress of Solitude tells the story of Dylan Ebdus, a white kid growing up in an African-American and Latino neighborhood in New York.

Writer Alec Wilkinson and an archive interview with William Maxwell on this edition of Fresh Air. Alec Wilkinson remembers his friend and mentor William Maxwell, who died Monday at the age of 91. Wilkinson is a staff writer for The New Yorker, and has been there since 1980.
