Eine Farce. 2500 Jahre alt und ewig aktuell: 30 Jahre dauert der Peloponnesische Krieg schon an, in dem Generationen von Männern und Söhnen der Frauen Griechenlands und Spartas sterben. Es reicht Lysistrate. Sie trommelt die Frauen aus allen Gegenden Griechenlands und die der spartanischen Feinde aus Sparta zusammen und ringt ihnen den Eid ab, in einen Sexstreik zu treten, um Friedensverhandlungen zu erzwingen. Die älteren Frauen besetzen die Staatskasse auf der Akropolis, denn nicht eine Münze soll mehr für Kriegsgerät ausgegeben werden.

Mit "Lysistrate" schuf Aristophanes eine der bekanntesten Komödien des antiken Griechenlands. Das Stück wurde 411 v. Chr. uraufgeführt – mitten im Peloponnesischen Krieg – und ist bis heute ein Paradebeispiel für politische Satire, weiblichen Protest und kluge Komik.
