Nox is a wanted man. While searching for a criminal, the fabled Coilhunter wanders into a tribal village massacre. He didn't do it, but that doesn't matter. The clues point to him, and he's made a lot of enemies over the years. Many would happily see the tables turned. His pleas of innocence fall on deaf ears. No sooner does he try to find the real killers than posters go up across the Wild North - posters with his face and his name. He isn't the only bounty hunter out there. Dozens assemble to cash him in.

The Resistance has barely nursed its wounds from the recapture of Blackout, and now it's looking to another tougher target: the massive steam-powered railway gun known as the Landquaker, the sentry gun of the formidable Iron Wall. To conquer this rail-mounted cannon, Jacob and company turn to old allies and new friends, from the land-loving tribes to the land-roving biker gangs. They'll need every soldier they can muster.

The Resistance races against time to complete the missile-launcher known as the Hometaker, capable of opening a gateway to the land the Regime came from, and exposing the Iron Emperor for all the evils he's done. Everything rests on the secrecy of the mission, but from day one, tongues are wagging. With no time left on the clock, General Rommond is forced to make an audacious plan: finish the construction of the Hometaker on the move, driving straight towards the enemy, who've assembled in unimaginable force. The Great Iron War is coming to an end.

Yet, hope is rekindled when the company find a way to restore the boy, and possibly the god, back to life. The road to rebirth has many pitfalls, and there are some who consider such meddling with the afterlife a grave risk.

Ifferon is one of the last in the bloodline of the dead god, Telm, who imprisoned the Beast, Agon, in the Underworld. Armed with a connection to the estranged gods in the Overworld, and a scroll bearing Telm's powerful dying words, he is tasked with ensuring the god's vital legacy: that Agon remain vanquished.
