The McCormacks have their floating city growing in the South Pacific, and their space station well underway. After ADI informs the board that with the stress of the new planets in the League, they will run out of platinum metals, Catie is asked to build a starbase so they can have a reliable source in another star system. During the war with Thorea, Jason and Miranda are jumping through a wormhole when a power surge causes the wormhole to jump. The wake up to find themselves in another star system. With no contact with the Delphi League, they decide to land on a planet in the system. There they discover humans living in the stone age.

Catie is on her way back to Earth after having settled the Fazulan slaves when the wormhole her ship is traveling in collapses. They are diverted to another system, where big chunks are flying around. They rescue a ship and find themselves in the middle of a series of mysteries. Catie resigns herself to continuing her role as Princess Catie and helping these people solve their problems so that this new system can join the Delphi League. And Catie gets exactly what she asked for.
